REST Centres - Restoration and Empowerment for Social Transition Centres

First established in 2015, REST Centres is a Black-led, BIPOC serving charitable organization providing transitional housing support services to youth experiencing or at-risk of homelessness. In less than ten years of operation, REST has established itself as an important organization helping to prevent and end youth homeless in Peel Region. REST stands out for its specific focus on the needs of Black youth. REST offers a number of supportive programs with the goal of supporting youth who are leaving the shelter and care systems, helping to ensure that the remain housed and have access to the supports they need to reach their full potential. Shelter REST Recognizes that youth are in better positions to move forward with their lives, when they have stable housing. Securing stable housing is a primary focus for REST, which helps youth to secure housing, and supports them to maintain their tenancies through: • Transitional Housing • Application Assistance • Eviction Prevention • Landlord Training & Support The Bridge of Hope Program: is an evidence-based program that offers an alternative to shelters, matching youth tenants with host families. REST provides ongoing support to both the youth and host families. Living The cost of living – income, food and basic necessities - is high. In addition to housing, REST provides some subsidies and helps youth secure essential sources of income as well food, personal care and household items. Bare Necessities Program: provides youth subsidies, gift cards and household starter packs which empowers them to maintain a standard of living, and sense of dignity as their work towards their independence Healing Lack of access to wellness resources and healthcare is a significant issue for homeless youth, particularly for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth.
