Katimavik
www.katimavik.org
Katimavik is Canada's leading youth service organization, and it has supported the development of young people into capable and engaged leaders since it was founded in 1977. Through its National Experience, a six-month-long volunteer opportunity, youth between the ages of 18-25 are placed in groups of 11, and have the chance to explore two new regions of Canada for a period of three months each. Participants learn through volunteer service with local non-profit organizations, community outreach projects, group learning activities and workshops, and the competencies that they gain can then be brought back to their home communities. Volunteers will also learn about Indigenous peoples in Canada and engage in meaningful Truth and Reconciliation activities through hands-on projects and initiatives. Over 40,000 volunteers has been through the Katimavik program over the decades, and the vast majority agree it is a life-changing experience.
