The Dorothy Ley Hospice
www.dlhospice.org
The Dorothy Ley Hospice offers compassionate care to people living with the challenges of a life-limiting illness or loss. Our goal is to provide comfort and to help individuals to live with dignity, meaning and hope. Our programs meet a variety of needs for individuals receiving palliative care. Volunteers are the "heart of the hospice" and oversee many programs. We rely on the support of volunteers in many areas of the hospice and the programs we run. Volunteers are needed: kitchen helpers - volunteers run our kitchen where we make meals for residents in our palliative care program. This requires training so that volunteers will be able to prepare and plate simple meals. (sandwiches, soup, muffins, jello, eggs, toast) front desk - volunteers greet all visitors, volunteers and staff to the hospice. They unlock the automated door, update schedules, answer phones and operate the automated parking lot gate. residential volunteers - are required to undergo a 30 hour palliative care training course in order to work one-on-one with individuals residing in our on-site rooms. community volunteers- visit the homes of palliative individuals and offer comfort and support and respite care to families. volunteer drivers - are needed to bring individuals to doctor appointments, and to drive other volunteers to do their visits. wellness volunteers - offer palliative individuals comforting treatments such as: massage, meditation, yoga, therapy dogs, reiki, acupuncture. volunteers either bring their expertise, or undergo training. bereavement volunteers- offer trained assistance to those experiencing a loss. They provide comfort and support. Fund development volunteers - assist with our two biggest annual fundraisers. "Hike for Hospice" and "Bedrace". Volunteers help in a variety of ways including registration and set up of site.
