Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club
http://caledonbrucetrail.ca/
The Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club (CHBTC) is one of 9 member clubs that form the Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC). The BTC is a volunteer-based, non-profit organization. Although it is most commonly noted as being a hiking organization, the BTC is one of Ontario’s largest land trusts and is dedicated to establishing a conservation corridor along the Niagara Escarpment that contains the Bruce Trail. The mission of the BTC and of the CHBTC is to preserve a ribbon of wilderness, for everyone, forever. As one of BTC’s clubs, CHBTC is responsible for maintaining, stewarding, and promoting the club’s 72 km section of the Bruce Trail. Promoting includes developing a hiking program throughout the year, holding club events to increase awareness about the Bruce Trail; to increase and engage membership, and hold fundraising events. Governance of the BTC is done through the BTC’s official board. The club boards are operations boards, but function as if they are officially recognized boards. CHBTC Board is a Working Board - i.e. board members often double duty as volunteer staff. The Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club's membership is 976, but our reach goes beyond our membership, and includes the total Bruce Trail Conservancy’s membership of 10,000, non-member hikers, residents in Caledon, landowners adjacent to our trail, and our partner organizations such as Conservation Authorities and Ontario Heritage Trust. For more information about the club, please see our website: http://caledonbrucetrail.ca/
