Goal

A child's early years - from before birth to age 6 - are very important. Healthy babies are more likely to develop into healthy children, and healthy children are more likely to grow up to be healthy teenagers and healthy adults. The 'In Home Visitor Volunteer' supports Ontario's Healthy Babies Healthy Children Program, an ongoing initiative the reflects the Region's vision and goals. The volunteer provides competent and reliable in home family support to promote healthy growth and development of children.


Description

Support isolated and overburdened families by engaging children in activities as defined by the family and Program. Training provided Volunteer is assigned/matched to a family, bearing in mind the volunteer's and the family's locations DETAILS: - Weekly scheduled 3 hour visit to family home (confirmed by telephone the day before) - Set achievable goals with client during family visits in consultation with the Healthy Babies Healthy Children Staff - Communicate with client about acceptable activities for their children - Provide quality attention and care for clients' children, ensuring the safely of infant(s)/children at all times - Consult and debrief with Coordinator, Volunteer Resources regarding challenging or difficult situations - Visits occur entirely in children's homes with parent(s) present - Attendances by the volunteer do not include personal care or medical care - Privacy/confidentiality are maintained/respected at all times, per the parameters defined by Peel Health PLEASE APPLY AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY  by accessing the Region of Peel volunteer application form; just 'click' on the yellow box 'Apply Now!', (above/below). Qualifications

  •  Minimum length of volunteering commitment - 3 MONTHS
  •  'Police Vulnerable Sector Check' required
  •  Two (2) professional references required
  •  Particularly suitable for those working towards or completed a social work, ECE, nursing, psychology or teaching diploma or degree
  •  Reliable access to a car PREFERRED (some clients also accessible by public transit)
  •  Genuine interest in helping overburdened families with children (Birth to 6 years old)
  •  Commitment to diversity and inclusiveness in Peel region and  excellent, confident oral/written English skills (additional languages welcome)
  •  Interest in/awareness of health promotion and early child development an asset
  •  Engaging, compassionate about, patient with, sensitive towards children's (parents') needs
  •  Able to follow the Program's policies and procedures strictly (including privacy/confidentiality)
  •  Able to volunteer as part of a team, plus be in-the-field independently
  •  Organized, reliable, consistent in keeping to schedules/commitments

Time Commitment
This is a Medium Term (4 - 6 months) commitment
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Monday Morning, Monday Afternoon, Tuesday Morning, Tuesday Afternoon, Wednesday Morning, Wednesday Afternoon, Thursday Morning, Thursday Afternoon, Friday Morning, Friday Afternoon

FLEXIBLE, with minimum 3-hour visit WEEKLY (see 'Description', above) OVERALL: Medium Term (between 3 to 6 months) requested - Minimum 3 month commitment is required
