About the Position
Victorian Order of Nurses, Peel Region, Community Health and Support Services Erin Mills Twin Arena, 3205 Unity Drive, Mississauga, Ontario Mississauga

Directly supporting the VON 'Meals on Wheels' program at this critical time, the Volunteer Food Packager assembles and packages food for our Delivery Drivers



This volunteering activity strictly follows necessary COVID-19 'restrictions' > distancing and PPE (sanitizer, masks, gloves provided at the food depot) > Erin Mills Twin Arena (Mississauga - see Map, below), with current need for volunteers on MONDAY FRIDAY (see TIME COMMITMENT, below)



Light physical activity and standing involved



Suitable applicants will be required to commit to a 6 MONTH volunteering engagement



VON IS IN IMMEDIATE NEED! Volunteers with 'profiles' in Volunteer MBC's Referral System can 'click' the yellow box 'Apply Now!' to send your name/contact information to the VON, in respect to the 'position'.   • Good oral English communication & active listening skills

  • 'Role' requires light physical activity (moderate lifting/carrying/standing)

  • Volunteer engagement = MINIMUM of 6 MONTHS > See TIME COMMITMENT, below

  • Mandatory TRAINING (see below)

  • You are committed to comply with physical distancing and PPE requirements/procedures as applicable 

  • Access to the Internet for training purposes, etc.

  • Capacity to remain calm in unexpected situations

  • You're a 'team player', keen to assist and make a difference

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Friendly, outgoing with older adults and persons with disabilities

  • Punctual and reliable

  • Ability to set clear boundaries, respect for privacy, and confidentiality

  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check because you'll be involved with 'vulnerable' population

  • SCREENING of all applicants will be virtual > Tel/Email/Online interview (if necessary)

ORIENTATION will be about the facility and how the 'role' relates to the 'Meals on Wheels' program, and TRAINING will focus on proper food handling and packaging for client deliveries, with heavy emphasis on COVID-19 Health & Safety procedures
