Goal

Ornaments of Grace and Virtue International Organization is seeking volunteers with a STEM background to help deliver our Young Women in STEM Workshop on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Huron Park Community Centre.

We seek STEM-oriented individuals who are passionate about empowering young women, comfortable guiding hands-on STEM challenges, and able to bring enthusiasm, encouragement, and technical insight to a fun, interactive learning environment.


Description

Activities Facilitator and General  assistance with  food, registration

 We need your STEM expertise to make our Young Women in STEM Workshop a success! Volunteers will support a full-day schedule of hands-on activities, competitions, and career exploration including:Registration & Welcome (9:00 – 9:20) – Greet participants help set a positive tone for the day.

STEM Icebreaker Games (9:20 – 9:35) – Assist with student discussion. 

Keynote Session (9:35 – 10:10) – Facilitate Q&A and student discussion.

Workshop 1: Engineering Design Challenge (10:00 – 11:10) – Guide teams in planning, building, and testing their catapults.

Workshop 2: Robotics Exploration (11:10 – 1:10) – Facilitate robotics demonstrations, manage carousel stations, and assist students with interactive tasks.

STEM Career Exploration Activity (1:40 – 2:20) – Support group rotations between STEM professional stations, facilitate discussion. 

World Problem-Solving Challenge (2:20 – 2:55) – Guide students through design thinking activities and group presentations.

Closing & Interviews (2:55 – 3:00) – Assist with wrap-up, thank attendees.

Qualifications

  • Your Role & Impact: As a volunteer, you will be a mentor, guide, and support system for young participants exploring STEM. You should be:
  • Experienced in or currently studying a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, mathematics)
  • Friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic about STEM education
  • Comfortable working with youth (ages 12-18)
  • Able to work well in a team and follow event instructions

This is a Special Event commitment
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Saturday Morning, Saturday Afternoon

Training

Selected volunteers will receive updates prior to the event about their specific responsibilities.
