Goal

INDUS Community Services is a charity with significant presence in Peel region (Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon). Our mission is to support growing communities, to manage change through quality, client-centered, social & health services, and responsive public education. We seek volunteers in our Brampton LINC classes, who would assist teachers help lower level literacy students. Volunteers having computer skills would also be an asset in assisting students with lower computer skills. SEE 'Time Commitment', below, for LOCATIONS, DAYS, and TIME.


Description

1. Help literacy learners with basic wring skills - holding pencils, direction of letters, learn alphabeti and phonetics

2. Teach numeracy skills to learners who have not had any formal education/training

3. Assist the teachers during class conversations

4. Help newcomers understand the Canadian culture

5. Support classroom teachers and learners with technical skills

Qualifications

  • TESL students preferred, experience teaching adults
  • Knowledge of Google classroom is an advantage (move down list please) 
  • Ability to teach English to non English speakers
  • Patience, understanding of issues faced by newcomers, empathy and ability to engage learners
  • Flexibility

Time Commitment
This is a Medium Term (4 - 6 months) commitment starting 2024-07-15
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Monday Morning, Tuesday Afternoon, Wednesday Morning, Thursday Afternoon

60 Gillingham Drve - Unit 500. Brampton Attendance of once or twice per week for 3 hours. Preferably from 9am - 12pm or 12:30pm to 3:30pm


Training

Program training and orientation will be provided prior to start.
