Goal

At Mississauga Minor Football, our mission is to foster a passion for football while instilling essential life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship in youth from grades 2 to 12. We are committed to creating an environment that encourages personal growth and development, where young athletes can thrive. Our dedicated coaches provide skill development and positional training, offering a positive, inclusive atmosphere where everyone is welcome.

We are looking for individuals with a love for youth sport who want to use their professional knowlege and skills to support the continued growth of youth football in Mississauga to join our Board of Directors.  A background in finance, law or business would be particulary helpful for our organization.


Description

Position Overview:As a member of the Board of Directors, you will play a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction of Mississauga Minor Football (MMF). Board members will be expected to provide leadership, oversight, and support to ensure the successful execution of the organization’s mission. This role requires a commitment to the organization’s core values, fostering an environment that is inclusive, accessible, and focused on youth development both on and off the field.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Guidance and Leadership: Collaborate with fellow board members and the executive team to set the overall vision and strategy for MMF, ensuring that the mission of fostering a passion for football and instilling life skills is upheld.

Oversight and Governance: Monitor the operations of MMF, ensuring that the organization complies with all legal, financial, and regulatory requirements. This includes reviewing budgets, financial reports, and ensuring the effective use of resources.

Fundraising and Resource Development: Contribute to efforts to secure funding and resources, including sponsorships, grants, and donations, to support MMF’s programs and initiatives.Advocacy and Representation: Represent MMF within the community, building relationships with key stakeholders including local schools, other sports organizations, and local government officials to support the growth and sustainability of the program.

Program Support and Development: Act as an advocate for MMF's coaching staff and players, providing support for ongoing training and ensuring that our programs remain relevant and accessible to all youth, regardless of background or ability.

Promoting MMF’s Values: Uphold and promote the values of inclusivity, sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance in all decisions and actions. Ensure that these values are reflected in the operation of MMF and the overall participant experience.

Term: Board members typically serve a three-year term, with the option for renewal.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Passion for youth sports and youth development, particularly in the area of football.
  • Experience in a leadership or governance role, preferably with a nonprofit, sports organization, or educational institution.
  • Strong understanding of financial management, budgeting, and/or fundraising techniques.  Legal expertise would be an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including parents, community members, and corporate partners.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of MMF, with an understanding of the importance of creating an inclusive and positive environment for youth athletes.
  • Prior experience as a volunteer or coach with MMF or a similar organization is a plus.

Time Commitment: The position requires attending board meetings (held monthly), participating in committee work as necessary, and engaging in organizational events and activities, including occasional volunteer shifts at the Rama Gaming Centre to support the organizaiton’s OLG fundraising. Board members should be prepared to dedicate up to 6 hours per month to fulfilling the duties of the position.

Training


  • Join board meetings in advance of start date to understand the cadence and learn the meeting structure and content.

  • one x one meetings with other Board members to learn specific areas of responsibility ie. Finance Director, Secretary, Football Operations, etc.

  • training on use of Google suite and how to access email, calendar and necessary documents
