Its mission is to, "To enhance the potential of individuals with disabilities by strengthning their independence and contributions to society; and to promote positive social change by transforming public perception".The Volunteer Chair of the Board of Directors provides leadership to the Board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities and ensures the Board functions effectively, ethically, and with full participation from its members. The Chair supports the Executive Director (or CEO) and serves as a key ambassador for the organization’s mission, values, and strategic goals.The role will be yours to fulfill and the impact of your volunteer engagement will be what you make it! This position will serve as a member of our Board of Directors for a ONE YEAR term

DescriptionPosition Summary The Volunteer Chair of the Board of Directors provides leadership to the Board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities and ensures the Board functions effectively, ethically, and with full participation from its members. The Chair supports the Executive Director (or CEO) and serves as a key ambassador for the organization’s mission, values, and strategic goals. Key Responsibilities Board Leadership & Governance - Preside over all board meetings and ensure an effective meeting structure and agenda.
- Ensure that the board fulfills its responsibilities for the governance of the organization.
- Facilitate the board’s role in strategic planning and policy development.
- Provide leadership in evaluating the performance of the Executive Director and the Board.
- Ensure board members are actively engaged and contribute to the organization's mission.
Executive Support - Serve as the primary liaison between the Board and the Executive Director.
- Provide guidance and support to the Executive Director without undermining their authority.
- Participate in the hiring and performance evaluation of the Executive Director.
Organizational Oversight - Monitor the organization’s financial performance and ensure accountability and transparency.
- Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Lead or delegate oversight for board committees and task forces.
Community & Advocacy - Provide support represent the organization at public events, stakeholder meetings, and media opportunities.
- Advocate for the organization’s mission and values within the community and with donors.
- Support fundraising efforts and engage in donor stewardship as appropriate.

QualificationsQualifications - Prior experience serving on a nonprofit board (chair or leadership experience preferred).
- Strong leadership, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Understanding of nonprofit governance and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
- Integrity, independent judgment, and the ability to build consensus.
