Goal

We are looking for energetic, compassionate, dedicated volunteers who are focused on helping us deliver our Mission, Vision and Values. At Osler, more than 1,200 volunteers help provide a welcoming, caring environment for everyone who enters our doors. These special people give of their time and expertise to support patients, visitors and staff at all Osler sites. We are currently seeking a volunteers to support the Gift Shops in our hospital. 


Description

The Gift Shop is operated by the Volunteer Association to raise funds for the hospital. Volunteers raise funds through sales that purchase vital hospital equipment. Volunteers on this service are expected to display superior interpersonal skills and marketing talents to provide excellent customer service. Duties include:

  • Greet and assist customers
  • Complete point of sale transactions
  • Ensure gift shop is neat, tidy and stocked for a positive customer experience
  • Deliver orders processed over the telephone, web or in person to patient rooms

Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • High level of communication skills
  • Fluent in English both verbal and written, additional languages may be beneficial
  • Adequate physical ability to stand for long periods and able to stock supplies
  • Discreet, empathetic behavior and ability to exercise diplomacy in talking to patients, patient’s family and staff
  • Previous retail experience is beneficial
  • Must be dependable and committed to scheduled shifts, or provide alternative availability to substitute absences
  • A minimum time commitment of one 2-3 hour shift per week for six-eight months or 60 hours is required
  • Zero-tolerance for breach of confidentiality and/or theft
  • Must adhere to all Osler policies

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment
Shifts are available Anytime

There is a 60-hour minimum requirement for all volunteers (this takes about six to eight months to complete if you are volunteering once a week for two to four hours). A typical volunteer opportunity is based on a fixed schedule, once per week (e.g. every Tuesday 10am-2pm). Shifts vary from 2-4 hours per week.

  • Emergency Preparedness

  • Infection Control

  • Health and Safety

  • AODA

  • Incidents and Illness

  • Confidentiality & Privacy

  • Patient Experience

  • Patient Identification

  • Volunteer Specifics

In depth training, placement tasks and rules are provided for all volunteers, specific to their role.

Trainings will be conducted by staff and experienced volunteers.
