Goal


Goal

Volunteers are integral to the success of our organization. We would be unable to provide the services and supports our communities

rely on without the valuable input of volunteers. A Community Brokers and Resident Volunteer will be focused on our Erinmills/Mississauga

area to work with newcomer community members on social engagement activities and shared learning in ways that include newcomers to

Canada. Through activities, community engagement and outreach, information sessions, etc. the Community Brokers and Resident

Volunteer will help build pathways for newcomers to learn of the social, natural and services available to them; and connect them to the

community’s informal assets, strengths and available supports. 

Volunteers will have the opportunity to give back to their community and gain a sense of satisfaction in doing so. We also welcome high

school students who will have the opportunity to gain their community service hours.

We have volunteer opportunities in the following areas:

  • Community outreach events and information booths
  • Local neighbourhoodlevel events; planning and delivering activities
  • Indigenous history and cultural competency
  • Contribute to evaluation and knowledge sharing with staff coordinators

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to effectively listen to diverse perspectives, build rapport, and facilitate

constructive dialogue

  • Cultural sensitivity: Awareness of different cultural contexts and ability to adapt communication styles accordingly 
  • Leadership and facilitation skills: Guiding decision-making processes
  • Community development knowledge and experience: Understanding of community development principles and best practices

and/or collaboration with community

  • Project management skills: Ability to provide insights with planning, organizing, and executing projects within specifications and

timelines

Onboarding and ongoing trainings and connections will be supported by our RootsCS Community Development Facilitator.
