Goal

The core mission of Brampton’s Recreation Division is to deliver exceptional and sustainable community-based recreation services for our residents. The Recreation Volunteer Program is designed to enhance the quality and accessibility of recreation services in Brampton. ​

The volunteer program mission is to empower volunteers to assist with registered programs, camps, and special events by fostering inclusion, leadership, and community engagement while enhancing the overall experience for participants.


Description

Make a splash in your community while gaining valuable skills! Aquatic Volunteers play an important role in supporting Swim Instructors during swimming lessons and ensuring participants have a safe, fun, and positive experience.

Volunteer Responsibilities

As an Aquatics Volunteer, you will:

  • Demonstrate swimming skills and techniques alongside Swim Instructors
  • Provide participants with feedback and encouragement to support their development
  • Assist with supervision and regular head counts
  • Help keep the pool deck clean, safe, and organized
  • Set up and put away equipment as needed
  • Lead or join in on fun pool-based songs and games
  • Identify common participant errors and assist with corrections

Qualifications

Volunteers must hold the following current certifications:

  • Emergency First Aid OR Standard First Aid
  • Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, OR National Lifeguard
  • Be comfortable engaging with and supporting a wide range of participants, typically ages 6–13

Time Commitment
This is a Short Term (3 months or less) commitment
Shifts are available Anytime

Aquatic programs run every session - Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer-with each session lasting 8 to 13 weeks.

  • Programs operate Monday to Friday between 4:00pm - 8:30pm and Saturday and Sunday between 9:00am - 2:30pm.
  • Volunteers can choose shifts that best fit their schedule.


Training

To become a volunteer, applicants must complete all steps in the onboarding process:


  1. Upload a City of Brampton Volunteer Waiver to your myimpact account

  2. Complete the appropriate Police Record check, and upload a copy to your myimpact account

    1. Volunteers between 14-17 years old must obtain a Level 2- Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check

    2. Volunteers 18 years of age and older must obtain a Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Check



  3. Complete the 'Onboarding Orientation E-Learning'

  4. Attend an in-person training session 

In addition to general onboarding, volunteers must complete a 3-hour in-person aquatic training session.
