Goal

Purpose:

Staying active and socially connected contributes to residents’ overall well-being. Volunteers who assist with portering help ensure residents can safely and comfortably participate in the many activities, appointments, and social opportunities available at Wellbrook Place. By helping residents get where they need to go, portering volunteers support independence, engagement, and a positive experience in the home.


Description

Responsibilities:

  • Safely escort residents in wheelchairs or with walkers to and from destinations within the home (e.g., programs, dining areas, salon appointments, therapy sessions, or visits).

  • Ensure residents are comfortable and engage them in friendly conversation during transit or while waiting.

  • Provide wayfinding assistance for residents and visitors as needed.

  • Communicate promptly with staff regarding any concerns about a resident’s condition or wellbeing.

  • Follow all infection prevention and control (IPAC) and safety procedures.

  • Understand and adhere to PCH’s Volunteer Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must be 15 years of age or older.

  • Friendly, patient, and empathetic, with a person-centred approach.

  • Enjoy spending time with older adults and supporting their independence.

  • Reliable and comfortable working in a busy care environment.

  • Able to safely push a wheelchair and walk moderate distances.

  • Fluency in verbal English (additional languages are an asset).

  • Police check and TB check required

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment starting 2025-11-10
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Monday Morning, Monday Afternoon, Tuesday Morning, Tuesday Afternoon, Wednesday Morning, Wednesday Afternoon, Thursday Morning, Thursday Afternoon, Friday Morning, Friday Afternoon, Saturday Morning, Saturday Afternoon, Sunday Morning, Sunday Afternoon

Available Shifts:

  • 7:30am to 11am

  • 11am to 2:30pm

  • 2:30pm to 6pm

Training Schedule Note:

  • New Volunteer Orientation runs once per month on a Saturday morning (date to be determined).

  • New Volunteer Orientation session

  • AODA training

  • IPAC and Safety overview

  • On-the-job training under supervision of staff/volunteer mentor
