Goal

Community Connector Volunteers play a key role in welcoming newcomers and helping them feel informed, connected, and confident as they settle into their new community.

Volunteers provide friendly social support, basic orientation, and guidance to community resources, while maintaining clear professional boundaries


Description

  • Welcome newcomers in a warm, respectful, and inclusive manner.

  • Provide friendly conversation and social connection to reduce isolation.

  • Share general information about local programs, services, community centres, libraries, and events.

  • Support newcomers in learning how to navigate the community and access the resources

  • Encourage independence, self-confidence, and community participation.

  • Offer informal opportunities for English conversation and practice.

  • Assist newcomers in identifying appropriate community resources and refer to program staff when needed.

  • Maintain confidentiality and follow all organization policies, boundaries, and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Friendly, patient, non-judgmental, and culturally sensitive.

  • Comfortable interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Strong communication and active listening skills.

  • Ability to maintain boundaries and professionalism.

  • Reliable, responsible, and able to follow program guidelines.

  • Previous experience working with newcomers is an asset but not required.

Time Commitment
This is a Medium Term (4 - 6 months) commitment
Shifts are available Anytime

Volunteers report to:

  • The designated Program Coordinator / Community Engagement Staff
    Volunteers will receive ongoing guidance, check-ins, and support as needed.


Training

 



  • Flexible based on program needs.



  • May include in-person, virtual, or community-based activities.



  • Volunteers must commit to attending orientation and relevant training
