We have around 400 adult learners yearly, all of whom are looking to better themselves for various reasons. We hope that our volunteers gain experience through this role, while helping us provide a more individual-focused education to our many learners. |

DescriptionVolunteer Teaching Assisstant needed! We are looking for a dedicated volunteer to support our adult learners in their English and math pursuits! Volunteers will primarily assist our students with math and occasionally with English; working within small groups or one-on-ones. Our wonderful volunteers assist us through their support in classroom activities, preparation of learning materials, and assisting with the learner's assisgnments. The perfect candidate would be a passionate and enthusaistic individual who are can help us foster inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning atmospheres for our students. This role is ideal for those who are genuinely interested in education, community service, and helping others reach their learning goals. BenefitsAside from the satisfaction of helping your community, we offer letters of recommendation to volunteers who assist us for at least 3 months, with strong possibility of contract renewal based on performance. Additionally, we provide 1 hour free time between morning and afternoon sessions to ensure proper breaks and lunch time allowance. |

QualificationsQualifications: We require strong communication skills in English for both verbal and written, as well as strong understanding in basic math concepts and problem solving as part of the job. Volunteers are not expected to have teaching or tutoring experience, but experience is an asset. Previous social services, education, or caregiving experience is also an asset. Our volunteers should be comfortable teaching up to Grade 11 math and have a good attention to detail. Our ideal volunteer will also be patient, empathetic, and have genuine interest in what we strive to provide the community. Time CommitmentThis is a Medium Term (4 - 6 months) commitment
Shifts are available on the following days - Monday Morning, Monday Afternoon, Tuesday Morning, Tuesday Afternoon, Wednesday Morning, Wednesday Afternoon, Thursday Morning, Thursday Afternoon Our schedule can be flexible, but typically follows this schedule: Mondays - Thursdays: Morning Classes: 10am - 12pm (2 hours) Afternoon Classes: 1pm - 3pm (2 hours)

TrainingWe strongly believe in proper training and orientation, so our volunteers will not be left to figure things out on their own! We introduce everyone to all of our staff and attempt to provide hands on instruction and communication on expectations prior to any official start times. There are no costs to training and dates can be flexible, but are often scheduled on slower days to allow our volunteers to get settled in before any official duties start. |
