Volunteer Committee Descriptions:  

Gallery Management Ambassadors (Marshals)Want to be a part of the largest committee? Formerly known as “Marshals,” the Gallery Management Ambassadors provide a level of consistency inside the ropes for our players, caddies, and volunteers; deliver a world class experience for our guests and ensure the safety of all of our volunteers and guests. The GMAs are the conductors on the field! From tee areas to the fairways, greens and beyond, everyone listens to you! These volunteers must work four shifts total and at least one on Tuesday and/or Wednesday for training. Please click here to read the full description of duties of a Gallery Management Ambassadors. 

Admissions & Spectator ServicesHave you ever needed help with tickets to a show or game and wished there were someone knowledgeable to help you through any ticketing issues? Do you like meeting and working with lots of fun people? This committee is for you! You will be stationed on site where daily tickets are sold at the entrance, you are welcoming people as you scan their tickets and answering questions that will make their day great. But wait...it does not end there! You are part of a team that will ensure anyone requiring special assistance feels welcomed at the event. We will take you on any of the tournament days, Wednesday through Sunday, and if you are a student, we will work around your schedule to ensure you get your volunteer hours.

AmbassadorsThe committee that makes the ultimate first impression! Think of yourself as the first face any spectator sees when entering the RBC Canadian Open. You are hospitable, you have the warmest smile and are you are the all-knower of the golf course! You will know how to navigate the Golf Canada App to help fans find their favourite player on course, locate a restroom, or grab food and drinks at the Fare Way. You interact with guests on and off course, direct fans to the entrance, shuttle parking lots, or the Must Visit Destinations. If you are outgoing, friendly, and energetic – this is your ideal match. We would need your smiling face on any of the tournament days, Wednesday through Sunday, with Thurs-Sun as the busiest days. 

Caddie ServicesIf you want to be part of a special group that help make the Pros shine, this is the committee for you. Consider yourself the caddie to the caddie! You help ensure caddie bibs are collected and organized for the following day. You distribute towels and yardage books and help make sure the caddies have THE BEST experience during the tournament. The goal for this committee is simple: be the best stop on tour for caddies. Shifts may start during advance week. Extra bonus if you’re an early riser, as those interested can watch the sun rise if you prefer the early shift!   

CommunicationsThe HUB of information! The central point handling all tournament communications and dispersing appropriately. You help answer spectator questions and/or forward incoming calls to appropriate departments. Volunteers in this committee keep key departments and committees informed through their organizational skills and as well as the distribution and collection of tournament radios. If you think this is you and you have availability on any days from Monday through Sunday, then sign right on up! 

Competition SupportDo you have an eye for detail and precision? Do statistics and numbers excite you? If yes, this is the committee for you! Using a state-of-the-art system for collecting and distributing real-time scoring and statistical data, ShotLink, the Competition Support Committee is multi-dimensional, broken into two sub-committees. Walking Scorers: they track scores and record data that is relayed in real time to scoreboards, network broadcasts and digital platforms around the world. ShotLink Mobile Spotters (SMS): assists in locating and flagging shots that miss the fairway/green, assists with ball flight from the tee, and relays pertinent information to the Scoring Team.

Walking ScorersScorekeepers will keep statistics/scores on a handheld tablet device. Volunteers will require a strong knowledge of the rules and comfortable using technology. Walking Scorers must have the physical ability to easily keep pace with their group across all 18 holes without a break and in varying weather conditions. For reference 18 holes will vary from 5-6 miles or roughly 10,000 steps. Volunteers are needed Wednesday to Sunday with mandatory availability required on Wednesday. PGA TOUR ShotLink will provide an online material & training sessions prior to the tournament week ensuring you are comfortable with this fantastic ‘Inside the Ropes’ role. Committee positions will be filled by invitation only. Invitations will first go out to returning RBC Canadian Open Walking Scorers volunteers, walking scorers with experience at other PGA TOUR events, then will be filled on a first-come first-served basis.   

ShotLink Moblie Spotters (SMS)This committee plays a critical role in enabling ShotLink to collect and distribute real-time scoring and statistical data. ShotLink Mobile Spotters assist by helping track ball flight off the tee and locating and flagging shots that miss the fairway or green. Their efforts directly support the delivery of real-time distance data and statistics to scoreboards, television broadcasts, internet platforms, gaming systems, and mobile applications. Volunteers in this role should have a basic understanding of golf and demonstrate a strong commitment to timeliness, accuracy, and attention to detail. Effective teamwork and communication are essential. All Mobile Spotters must be physically capable of walking their assigned hole for the duration of their shift, often in varied weather conditions. A key responsibility is quickly locating shots as this is vital for ensuring accurate shot location data. Volunteers on this committee must sign the ShotLink disclosure form, complete a short online training course and attend a short virtual or in-person training session prior to tournament week. Volunteers are required to be 18 years of age or older

EvacuationStop, drop and listen to this committee! You are responsible for the safe evacuation of players and caddies from the golf course if necessary. You are the voice or driver we will turn to in specific vehicle evacuation areas allocated by zone. There are usually two to four areas depending on the golf course layout. You will be needed Monday to Sunday—volunteers must be at least 25 years of age and MUST have a Driver’s License in good standing. Completion of a Driver’s Abstract yearly is required for this committee.

Golf CartsYou keep the tournament moving… literally! This role will ensure the proper distribution and maintenance of golf carts. Additionally, they will aid in the allocation of golf carts and help label! Volunteers will sign out golf carts to authorized personnel, ensuring that all carts are returned and ready for use the next day. Minimum age is 18 years old, and you MUST have a Driver’s License in good standing.

Grounds & CourseThe committee that is responsible for keeping those that spend all day outside hydrated. From PGA TOUR professionals to players and caddies, you are responsible for restocking and distributing water and ice across the course. Additionally, you will manage the delivery of pails of water and fruit to the starting tees. You may be required to assist Golf Canada with additional deliveries. Volunteers will be needed Monday to Sunday.

MedicalVolunteers of this committee must be certified in their profession. They must be in the medical field as a doctor, nurse, or paramedic. You are in the field supporting our contracted EMS team on important medical decisions and are the point person for the PGA TOUR’s medics and for the players. 

Operations SupportWant a behind the scenes look at what goes into setting up a PGA TOUR tournament? Starting the week before the event, you will join our Operations team to help assemble the RBC Canadian Open. You will assist in preparing key elements of the tournament including setting up signage, roping the course, and creating other volunteer committee spaces. You will need to be flexible as new tasks may arise throughout the day. Volunteers will be needed starting the week leading up to the tournament, until the Tuesday post-tournament. If you prefer to get a little dirty and use your muscles, this is the committee for you. 

Player ServicesYou are full of personality and hospitality, but most importantly professionalism. You value hosting and being able to help players with all their needs. Your priorities: registering players for the championship, coordinating local activities, gathering material for information packages as well as handling general hospitality inquiries from players and their families. If you know the host city and the community at hand, this is the perfect committee for you. Volunteers will be needed Sunday to Sunday. Minimum age is 18 years old.  

Practice FacilityGet inside the ropes to experience how the stars of the PGA TOUR train. You will assist in the operation of the practice range to sort and distribute practice balls, change name plates, and control access to the range, putting and chipping greens. Volunteers will be needed Sunday to Sunday with shifts starting as early as 5:00am.

Special EventsDo you like to put on seamless events? Bringing people together for a great time? In this committee role, you will assist Golf Canada in the execution of unique events throughout the tournament. Volunteers should be personable, have excellent customer service skills, and must be able to get around the golf course on their own. Snapshot of events included in this committee; Championship Pro Am, School Field Trip Day, Honorary Observers and much much more. Volunteers are required to be available to work a shift on Wednesday for the Championship Pro-Am – the busiest day for this committee. 

Standard BearersLooking for an up close and personal experience? A standard bearer’s job is to carry a standard and inform the gallery of each player’s score in relation to par for the Championship. Volunteers must be able to walk 18 holes and have strong golf knowledge and a professional etiquette. Volunteers will be needed Wednesday to Sunday with mandatory training required on Wednesday.

Committee positions will be filled by invitation only and will require a security code to select as a first preference. Invitations will first go out to returning RBC Canadian Open Standard Bearers volunteers, volunteers with Standard Bearer experience at other PGA TOUR events, then will be filled on a first-come first-served basis.

VIP HospitalityYou are the eyes on the ground and the gatekeeper of our Skyboxes and Tents. If you volunteer on this committee, you are hospitable, charismatic, charming yet stern and strong in your presence. General tidying and upkeep of the spaces is also required, this may include tidying up tables, wiping dew in the mornings, etc. Volunteers in this area are also often asked to provide directions to other areas of the course, so knowledge of the course and locations of tournament areas is an asset. Guests in the VIP hospitality spaces make a significant investment in the tournament and volunteers are asked to be hosts and ambassadors of the tournament and ensure guests have an excellent experience. Volunteers for this committee must be available for all four days between Thursday to Sunday. Minimum age is 18 years old.

VIP TransportationAre you someone who enjoys driving cars and sometimes golf carts? Volunteers will transport PGA TOUR professionals, caddies, and tournament officials to and from airports, official hotels, private housing, and the golf club. At times, this role will also aid in supporting the various transportation needs of special events and various Golf Canada personnel. An extremely personal but professional personality is what is needed here! Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing. Volunteer shifts will start as early as Saturday of the advance week prior to the tournament and will end the Monday after the tournament wraps. Depending on flight schedules, shifts may start as early as 5:00am and end as late as 2:00am. Completion of a Driver’s Abstract is required for this committee. Minimum age is 25 years old

Volunteer SecurityThis committee is responsible for assisting with access and crowd control in restricted areas on site such as: player walkways to and from the clubhouse, access to scoring, autograph areas, the range, putting greens, player movement to and from starting/finishing holes and other secure areas outside the clubhouse area.  Volunteers will ensure safe & unimpeded travel of properly accredited players, staff & volunteers while also reminding spectators of the code of conduct while attending the RBC Canadian Open. Duties may include opening/closing of rope lines and clearing pathways/routes ahead of players. Experience in security or law enforcement is an asset but not required.  Volunteers serve only to verbally inform spectators of the expectation and are not permitted to intervene in the event of non-compliance.  Uniform Security & Police will be in close proximity to assist in those situations.   Volunteer Security committee members must have strong customer service skills.  Volunteers will be expected to stand and/or be moving for their entire shift and be working outdoors. Volunteers will be needed Monday to Sunday. Minimum age is 21 years old.

Volunteer ServicesThis role is all about taking care of our 2,000+ volunteers and making sure every single one has a great RBC Canadian Open experience. This committee helps with uniform packaging and distribution at pick-up meetings in May before the championship and staffing the Volunteer Services desk during tournament week. Another large role is assisting with the operation of Volunteer Shuttles to get volunteers where they need to be. Volunteer Services will also operate a Volunteer Care Cart which will deliver water, fruit, and other essentials to volunteers stationed far from the Volunteer Centre. On top of that, you’ll help organize raffle prizes for Volunteer Appreciation. Volunteers in this role should bring strong customer service skills, be knowledgeable about other committees and their locations, and be ready to give directions and guidance to key destinations throughout the golf course. This role is perfect for adaptable, flexible, and friendly people who are ready to jump in wherever needed, as small but important tasks often pop up from Golf Canada throughout the week.

50/50 SalesAre you charming and persuasive, not afraid to engage with spectators to raise money for a worthy cause? Wednesday through Sunday, the Golf Canada Foundation will be selling 50/50 tickets on-site at the RBC Canadian Open in support of the event’s official charity, First Tee - Canada. Volunteers are needed to assist in selling tickets. During their shift, each volunteer will be given a Golf Canada Foundation caddy bib with a 50/50 name badge on the back. While most volunteers will be assigned stations on the golf course, a limited number will be roaming vendors. If you are outgoing and persuasive, this is the committee for you!
