DescriptionThe Director of Communications volunteer provides strategic leadership for all Chapter communications and works collaboratively to support the GTA Chapter committee Chairs. This position helps shape how our Chapter informs, engages, and supports the public, our partners, and our local supporters. The incumbent also serves as a key representative of the Chapter—working with the National Office, connecting with local organizations, and occasionally providing leadership support when the Chapter Chair is unavailable. This home-based role reports to the Chapter Chair requires about 20 hours per month of volunteer duties on average.
Develops and executes a communication strategy to support the organization’s mission and the volunteer Chapter’s strategic and action plansOversees implementation of Chapter’s tactical plans in alignment with National Office communications strategy and prioritiesProvides strategic input on the Chapter’s interaction with mediaWorks closely with National Office staff and local organizations, and provides back-up leadership to the Chapter as requiredLiaises with Chairs of various committees and provides them with communications advice and supportOversees GTA Chapter Facebook account and Chapter page on DWDC websiteLeads public awareness and education programs:Liaises with traditional media; oversees social media presenceProduces member communication, including quarterly newsletterContributes to event planning and promotion |

TrainingTraining will take place within the volunteer Chapter by shadowing and co-ordinating with the existing team virtually or in-person. |
