Goal

DBNC was founded in 1988 by concerned members of the community to enhance the quality of life of residents in the area.

Located in the Burnhamthorpe Library building, DBNC has been an institution in the Peel region for our timely and responsive service delivery to newcomers, families, youth, children, seniors, and job seekers. All our programs are free of charge and strive to meet the needs of the community.

Description

The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) provides free tax preparation services to eligible community members with modest incomes and simple tax situations, as defined by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Key Responsibilities (Please identify which role you’re applying for):

Tax Preparer

  • Prepare basic income tax returns for eligible individuals.
  • Virtual or in-person (we will only allow volunteers to be virtual if they are experienced tax preparers)
  • Experienced tax preparers preferred
  • Must already be registered as a CVITP volunteer + Registered and confirmed E-File

Interpreter

  • Facilitate communication between clients and volunteers by translating as needed.

Support Administrative Role

  • Book appointments and manage client scheduling.
  • Allocate clients to available tax preparers.
  • Communicate with tax preparers and coordinators to address concerns.
  • Ensure clients have required documentation and meet eligibility criteria.
  • Organize volunteer files and collect program data.

    Benefits

    You will recieve a letter ofappreciation and certificate from DBNC and CVITP stating the hours put in and for those who have filed taxes, how many taxes they've filed. 


    Qualifications

    Skills & Qualifications:

    • Experience working with diverse populations and social service organizations.
    • Comfortable with numbers and basic tax return processing.
    • Training or experience in completing income tax forms.
    • Accounting or bookkeeping experience is an asset.
    • Strong problem-solving and independent work skills.
    • Effective time management and organizational abilities.
    • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
    • Patience and professionalism in handling client concerns.
    • Knowledge of a second language is an asset.

    Cleared Vulnerable Sector Check required. (within 6 months is accepted)

    Time Commitment
    This is a Short Term (3 months or less) commitment starting 2026-03-02 AND ending 2026-05-08
    Shifts are available Anytime

    There are virtual Tax Filing options of you:

    1. Have over 3 years filing taxes

    2. Can pick up the DBNC Tax Laptop to use and drop it off once the clinic is completed.

    3. Have a flexible schedule


    Training

    Training & Commitment:


    • Register as a volunteer with DBNC and CRA’s CVITP. (PLUS RepID and Efile for Tax Preparers)

    • Complete CRA-provided training.

    • Minimum commitment of 4 hours per week during tax season (March–April).

    • Clinic operates Monday to Friday during regular office hours. (8:30 AM- 4:30 PM) with occasional Thursday evenings when we clost at 7:00 PM

    • Maintain regular communication with DBNC Coordinator.
