Goal

Are you ready to make a lasting impact in Peel Region?  Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre (DBNC) is seeking passionate, skilled leaders to join our Board of Directors.  As a board member, you will help guide a respected nonprofit that has empowered newcomers, families, youth, seniors, and job seekers for over 35 years.

DBNC is a nonprofit organization. Was founded in 1988 by concerned members of community to enhance the quality of life those residing in Dixie Bloor area. For over 35 years, DBNC has been an institution in Peel region for our timely and responsive service delivery for new comers, families, youth, children, seniors and job seekers. All our programs are free of charge and strives to meet the needs of the community. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life with impactful services and engaging programs that build stronger and progressive communities.

We uphold and advance principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility and learning (IDEAL) across the organization. Every individual who engages with DBNC has their diverse perspectives, experiences and cultures valued and safeguarded. We welcome applicants with expertise in fundraising, marketing, finance, risk management, law/legal and regulatory affairs, nonprofit management, and information technology.  Previous board experience is an asset.

Qualifications

Your Commitment

  • Attend monthly board meetings (combination of in-person and virtual).
  • Serve on at least one committee aligned with your expertise or interest.
  • Contribute 3–4 hours per month, plus additional time for special initiatives/committee meetings.
  • Serve a three-year term (renewable).
  • Actively participate in fundraising, outreach, and strategic planning.
  • Attend and support agency events such as Summerfest and more.
  • Commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Learning (IDEAL)

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment starting 2026-03-20
Shifts are available Anytime

MINIMUM 3 YEAR APPOINTMENT, with a time commitment of approximately three (3) evening hours per month, plus sub-committee work. The Board regularly meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month.

    • Any prior involvement with DBNC or similar organizations.
    • Your understanding of board governance and philanthropy.
    • Your commitment to equity, anti-racism, and truth and reconciliation.
    • Your availability to participate in meetings and committee work, along with preferred meeting modality.

The Interview Process

    • The deadline to apply is March 20, 2026, 11:59 PM EST.
    • Interview will be scheduled with shortlisted candidates and the Board Nomination Committee.   
    • Interview times will be based on the availability of those involved, and may take between 30 and 60 minutes.

Training

Orientation will be provided during screening of suitable applicants (See also 'Position Qualifications')
