We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Volunteer Teaching Assistant to support adult learners with developmental disabilities in a structured classroom environment. This role involves assisting the lead instructor in delivering engaging lessons in areas such as life skills, literacy, recreational learning, and community-focused activities. Volunteers play an essential role in fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning atmosphere.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the instructor in preparing classroom materials and setting up activities
• Provide one-on-one or small-group support to participants during lessons and activities
• Encourage positive participation, engagement, and skill development
• Support learners with tasks such as reading, writing, fine-motor activities, arts, and hands-on projects
• Help maintain a safe, respectful environment by following program guidelines
• Participate in recreational, creative, or community-based activities as needed
• Offer patience, empathy, and encouragement to all participants
• Communicate any concerns or observations to program staff in a timely manner
• Assist with tidying the classroom and organizing supplies after sessions

• Genuine interest in working with adults with developmental disabilities
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patient, compassionate, and supportive approach
• Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with staff
• Reliable and able to commit to scheduled hours

Assets (not required):

• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, or mental health needs
• Background in social services, education, or caregiving

Additional Requirement:

• Completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check is required

The first days of this volunteer opportunity will revolve around getting to know the organization and the Pathways to Growth (P2G) Program inside and out. You will be trained on how our classrooms function and the goals of the program. Afterwards, you will be paired with an instructor and shadow her classes so that you get a chance to build rapport with your students. You will always have plenty of staff and support around you so that you will be successful in this role!
