Goal

The Peel Children's Aid Society (PCAS) values the efforts of volunteers to help reach the children and families who need our help. Volunteers play an important role in the lives of those we serve. By contributing your time in a driving 'role', thereby directly assisting families in need of safe, reliable transportation, you will make a positive impact on families, their children, and their future.Volunteer Drivers assist families and children with safe, reliable travel to and from school, appointments, and other engagements/occasions. And PCAS pays 'mileage' (see below). As we emerge from COVID-19, this 'role' will take on increasing importance with corresponding increased need of volunteers.


Description

The Peel Children's Aid Society could not fulfill its mandate without an effective Drive Program, within which volunteers have a key 'role'.

Volunteer Drivers transport children to/from appointments, school, special events. and parent and family visits, under the supervision and direct support of our Volunteer Drive Coordinator.

Transport to/from SCHOOL: Weekdays, mornings and/or afternoons (see TIME COMMITMENT, below)

(above) to indicate (register) your interest in this volunteering opportunity, PLUS you will gain immediate access to the PCAS online VOLUNTEER APPLICATION FORM. You will be contacted by PCAS as follow up to begin a screening process (see QUALIFICATIONS, below).

Qualifications

  • Minimum Age - 18
  • You are resident in Peel (Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon)
  • Friendly/engaging with members of the public (incl. young children)
  • Committed to understand the mission, mandate, policies and procedures of PCAS (incl. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - access our website in Social Media, below) and to abide by these
  • Ability to strictly adhere to PCAS Policies & Procedures (incl. confidentiality and safety protocols)
  • Length of volunteering commitment - MINIMUM of 1 year (MINIMUM 2 HOURS WEEKLY, and you have no difficulty keeping to a schedule)
  • Access to the Internet for purposes of communication (incl. a phone for confirmation of pick ups, etc. and convenient, necessary communication 'on the road')
  • Valid full 'G' Driver's Licence, plus clean driver's abstract
  • You own and drive a reliable, clean motor vehicle which carries liability insurance required by the Province of Ontario, and which is equipped with child seat anchors
  • Committed to proper, safe transport of infants in child car seats (and booster seats) in compliance with Ontario regulations
  • Access to 'direct deposit' for the purpose of receipt of mileage reimbursements
  • Because you will be involved with minors, a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check and Proof of Vaccination are required

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment
Shifts are available Anytime

FIXED: Monday to Friday during the daytime to take children to and from school, scheduling to be mutually set up
FLEXIBLE: Specific days and hours for drivers, as needed and mutually arranged, depending upon families' needs, volunteers' availability
PCAS requires a weekly volunteer commitment from its Volunteer Drivers of a MINIMUM of 2 HOURS


Training

Mandatory ORIENTATION to Peel Children's Aid Society policies and procedures, with focus on the Volunteer Drivers 'role', plus specific TRAINING abour proper use of children's car seats, and access to our Drivers' Roundtable. Our volunteers receive ongoing support.



As COVID-19 restrictions ease, PCAS will transition from virtual orientation/training to 'in person' meetings and 'check ins'.
