Goal

We are looking for energetic, compassionate, dedicated volunteers who are focused on helping us deliver our Mission, Vision and Values. At Osler, more than 1,200 volunteers help provide a welcoming, caring environment for everyone who enters our doors. These special people give of their time and expertise to support patients, visitors and staff at all Osler sites. We are currently seeking a volunteers to support various departments in our hospital.


Description

Volunteers are needed to assist staff, patients and visitors at all three Osler hospitals: Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital and Peel Memorial Centre! If you are retired, volunteering at Osler is a great way to use your skills, experience and talents while keeping active in your community. If you are a student, volunteering is a wonderful way to see how hospitals work and learn about health care as a potential career. It's also a great way to gain workplace experience and to meet others with similar interests. If you are working but have some time during the day, volunteering is a great way to learn more about the hospital while staying in touch with your community. If you're interested, we hope you'll consider joining us. There are so many ways to help!

You can request a certificate once you have completed 60 hours of service and a reference after 100 hours of service.


Qualifications

  • The minimum age to volunteer is 15 (at the time of application)
  • Strong communication skills in English (additional languages are an asset)
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers and patients
  • Ability to handle situations in a fast-paced environment
  • Be compassionate, caring and able to provide positive support to patients and their families

Time Commitment
This is a Medium Term (4 - 6 months) commitment
Shifts are available Anytime

There is a 60-hour minimum requirement for all volunteers (this takes about six to eight months to complete if you are volunteering once a week for two to four hours). A typical volunteer opportunity is based on a fixed schedule, once per week (e.g. every Tuesday 10am-2pm). Shifts vary from 2-4 hours per week.

Our trainings and orientations at Osler covers the following:


  • Emergency Preparedness

  • Infection Control

  • Health and Safety

  • AODA

  • Incidents and Illness

  • Confidentiality & Privacy

  • Patient Experience

  • Patient Identification

  • Volunteer Specifics

In depth training, placement tasks and rules are provided for all volunteers, specific to their role.

Trainings may be conducted by staff, experienced volunteers, team leads, resources nurses, charge nurses, or clerical associates.
