As a Ward Lead, you will be responsible for supporting and implementing crime prevention research,outreach and program delivery at the local Ward level.


Description

Safe City Mississauga works toward an inclusive and truly preventative approach in order to predict, identify, prevent, and reduce crime by addressing the risk factors associated with crime and victimisation. We focus on the factors that come before the onset of criminal and anti-social behaviour through proactive measures that target individuals, family/peers, community, and society. This volunteer position would involve supporting and implementing crime prevention research,outreach and program delivery at the local Ward level.

Responsibilities/Duties

The role involves supporting Ward-level activities related to crime exposure, risk profiles, and crime prevention measures. It also includes managing and supervising volunteers and placement students, efficiently reviewing information for patterns and connections, and assisting in outreach initiatives to cultivate partnerships. Additionally, the position supports the establishment of Neighbourhood Watches and the implementation of crime prevention approaches and strategies.

Tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  • Support activities at the Ward level into crime exposure, risk profiles and mitigations to enhance crime prevention at the local level.
  • Manage and supervise volunteers and placement students
  • Review documentary and electronic information in an efficient way looking for patterns, connections, identifying risks and highlighting important details.
  • Assist outreach initiatives to help Safe City Mississauga build on partnerships and identify new opportunities for partnership.
  • Support our crime prevention approach, strategy, and activities to establish new and reestablish inactive Neighbourhood Watches.

Qualifications

  • You will be assigned a Ward and you must reside, work, or have experience working in the Ward.
  • 3+ years in crime prevention, law enforcement, crime prevention, law enforcement, community safety, social services, and/or security.
  • University and/or college education in relevant fields (ex. criminology, criminal justice, social sciences, etc).
  • Work collaboratively within team and with stakeholders.
  • Provide timely and quality service to internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in meetings and training
  • Ability to work remotely/hybrid take initiative, self-motivated.
  • In-person work required.
  • Mobility and access to a vehicle is required.
  • Comfortable contacting members of the Community to conduct community interviews on safety/crime. 
  • CPTED Level 1 and 2 is an asset.
  • Event planning and leadership experience is an asset.
  • Presentation skills and experience on relevant crime prevention topics is an asset.
  • Police Record Check Level 2 required.

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment starting 2024-01-24 AND ending 2024-12-24
Shifts are available Anytime

Standard Office hours are 8:30 AM-4:30 PM

May be expected to work evenings and weekends.

5-10 hours per week minimum.

Flexibility and accomodations can be discussed upon hiring successful candidates.

Position is long term and ongoing.
