Goal

Braiding Futures is a participatory action research project about the connections between Black and Indigenous Peoples and how community organizations can invite these connections and people into their programming and spaces. Braiding, as Kelley describes it above, is a grounding metaphor for our approach that underpins this work.  Even though there are already connections between Indigenous and Black ways of knowing, being & doing (and community organizations), this project imagines an intentional braiding to create new touchpoints, new possibilities and new community connections for Black and Indigenous youth in Peel so that they may be more and better able to encounter each other now and into the future. Together (and separately), Indigenous and Black youth are a “mighty force and a thing of beauty.”
