Goal

MICBA Forum Italia Community Services (Forum Italia) operates a Supportive Housing Program with the purpose of providing Attendant Services to seniors 65 and over in permanent community residential settings when their support service needs require the availability of 24-hour, on-site assistance. The role of any Supportive Housing program is to provide an alternative to Long Term Care facilities while maintaining people’s independence and integration into their communities. Ours is a multicultural initiative that has matured into an established presence, highly regarded in the community that we serve. We have always recognized the challenges that older adults (especially seniors 65+) face in terms of being isolated within their communities, and in feeling genuinely lonely. Such isolation and loneliness often lead to physical and emotional health issues that seriously compromise a senior's enjoyment of life.TOMBOLA! That's what you'll be hearing if someone wins the jackpot! An Italian version of Bingo, Tombola is a traditional board game that was first played in Naples in the 18th century. Since then, this classic has only grown in popularity. Come join us as a volunteer helping to conduct Tombola sessions for the entertainment and pleasure of our resident seniors, many of whom are from a Italian cultural background.

Description

As a Tombola volunteer, you'll be engaged in welcoming residents to our residence dining room where the game will be played, then assisting in the purchase of Tombola cards and in playing them. A volunteer will call out the numbers, and you'll assist in winnings being distributed to jackpot winners. Specifically:

  1. Sign in at the volunteer office and obtain attendance sheet
  2. Remind and recruit residents to participate (names and rooms numbers on sheet)
  3. Take attendance (when in doubt ask the residents to tell you their apartment numbers)
  4. Introduce yourself
  5. Turn lights on and set up the tables to be used in the dining room
  6. The volunteer is in charge of the game and you will be the one who calls out the numbers
  7. Residents randomly will receive individual Tombola cards. The players buy the cards, and the money is divided into five prizes, from lowest to highest
  8. Start the game and the 'caller' will make sure when calling numbers to be loud and clear
  9. Volunteer to assist residents that need help
  10.  Clean up when the game is finished (restore the dining tables/chairs)
  11.  Before, during, and after the session, follow COVID-19 Safety Protocols (incl. sanitizing tables and chairs)
  12.  Sign out at the volunteer office, leabing the attendance sheet under the office door
