Goal

MICBA Forum Italia Community Services (Forum Italia) operates a Supportive Housing Program with the purpose of providing Attendant Services to seniors 65 and over in permanent community residential settings when their support service needs require the availability of 24-hour, on-site assistance. The role of any Supportive Housing program is to provide an alternative to Long Term Care facilities while maintaining people’s independence and integration into their communities. Ours is a multicultural initiative that has matured into an established presence, highly regarded in the community that we serve. We have always recognized the challenges that older adults (especially seniors 65+) face in terms of being isolated within their communities, and in feeling genuinely lonely. Such isolation and loneliness often lead to physical and emotional health issues that seriously compromise a senior's enjoyment of life.A BIG PART of seniors' HEALTH & WELLNESS is active recreation that stimulates the mind and body, and games do just that, plus they're very 'social'. Card-playing is a natural for our residents! Want to add Italian card games to your gaming repertoire? Join the seniors of Forum Italia in a game of Scopa or Briscola and prepare for your game to get interesting! Our immensely popular Italian Card Program is open to all residents of 155 and 195 Forum.

Description

A brief summary of these popular Italian card games:

Briscola: Every player is dealt eight cards, so that no cards remain undealt. Then the bidding phase begins, the purpose of which is to decide the trump suit (Briscola) and to form 2 uneven groups that will play against each other. Cards: 40 cards  Players: 2-8  Deck: Italian     Card rank (highest first): A 3 R C F 7 6 5 4 2

Scopa: Played with a standard Italian 40-card deck, mostly between 2 players or 4 in 2 partnerships, but it can also be played by 3, 5, or 6 players. The name Scopa is an Italian noun meaning "broom", since taking a 'scopa' means "to sweep" all the cards from the table. Cards: 40-card Players: 2, 3, 4, or 6 Card rank (highest first): R C F 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
