Goal

The Caledon Parent-Child Centre (a designated Early ON Centre) is a community service charitable organization that provides quality programs for children, parents, and caregivers in Caledon and the surrounding areas. We are a hub, offering an important blend of services that strengthen families and assist them in the critical role of raising young children. Services include child development opportunities, early identification of developmental concerns, referrals to specialized services and supports, and parenting education. The Caledon Parent-Child Centre is a member of the Canadian Association of Family Resource Programs.At this time, our Board is in need of an experienced legal professional to become a volunteer member of our Board of Directors, providing expertise to its Governance Committee, while gaining valuable leadership experience in a high profile community services organization (see 'Position Description', above, for details, including application procedure).


Description

- Participate in setting the directions and policies of the organization to ensure that the needs of Caledon families and children are met- Ensure fiscal responsibility and monitor funding in accordance with the organization's mandate- Play an active role in advising and supporting the Executive Director at Board and Committee meetings- Participate in the development and legal soundness of long-term, strategic plans for the organization- Attend and actively participate in Board meetings (Approximately 10 meetings per annum - fourth Monday of the month. Meetings are held in Bolton.)- Serve on a minimum of one Board Committee and work independently on assigned activities- Advocate on behalf of the CPCC and support fund development projects and activitiesEssential Duties & Responsibilities - Review policy and contracts and provide recommendations to Executive Director, Finance Committee and Board- Review the organization's financial statements, CRA filings, and insurance- Ensure the organization complies with all legal and regulatory requirementsPLEASE APPLY AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY, and by NO LATER than 4:00 PM, Friday, November 29, 2019. Qualifications

● Law degree with eligibility to practice law in Ontario, plus minimum of 5 years of legal experience● At least 2 years of legal experience in business or public service administration● Able to commit to a 2-year term as a Member of the Board of Directors● Demonstrated experience in the development and/or review of policies, procedures, practices and processes to limit legal exposure and manage risk● Prior involvement in a not-for-profit corporate setting preferred● Commitment to the mandate and purpose of the organization● Strong oral/written communication skills, combined with problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with commitment to community leadership that advances the mandate and purpose of CPCC ● Excellent interpersonal/'networking' skills● Team player, with the ability to engage in the 'role' independently● Police Check will be at the 'vulnerable sector' levelCandidates must participate in an interview and the Board member nomination process. Time Commitment

Training

General orienation to CPCC/OEYC will be provided, as well as Board orientation.Training: on-going, and further training and development opportunities will also be provided.
