Goal

'Community Living Ontario'(CLO) is a family-based association assisting people who have an intellectual disability and their families to lead the way in advancing inclusion in their own lives and in their communities. Among CLO's numerous programs is 'Student Links', affording volunteers the opportunity to mentor a young person who identifies with an intellectual disability, with the mentoring relationship based on mutual interests that are developed through participation in events/classes in the community.The role is a challenging and exciting volunteering opportunity, socially and personally enriching.


Description

> 'Student Links' is provincial initiative that works with high school students that have been labeled with having an 'intellectual disability' an opportunity to explore ideas for what they may want to do after completing school. > We help them do this by matching them with people in their community who share a similar interest/passion, or have a career/role, in a field that they would like to explore further - that's you! > Ultimately through 'Student Links', we aim to encourage students to follow their passion and gain new skills and experiences in order to expand the possibilities of what they want to do after they graduate.PLEASE APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FOR THIS VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY. Training

A coordinator will facilitate the initial meeting with you and the student, help you develop a plan of support, and accompany you to the first few meetings with the student until you are feeling comfortable to meet one-on-one.
