Goal

Since 1981, Catholic Family Services of Peel-Dufferin (CFSPD), a non-profit, charitable organization that has been providing services to people of all faiths and backgrounds in the Region of Peel and County of Dufferin. Our mission is to strengthen and enrich individual, family and community life. We are an accredited organization with the Canadian Centre for Accreditation and a member agency of Catholic Charities.CFSPD’s Board of Directors is a community board that provides leadership and strategic governance to support the organization in achieving its mission. Our Board of Directors is committed to a human-centered work designed to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding community rich in culture and diversity.CFSPD currently needs to fill Board vacancies, and are looking for individuals with skills and experience in any of the following areas: Business; Finance; Law; Fundraising; cCommunications and Marketing; Human Resources; Healthcare; Social Justice and Advocacy; and Community Development. Description

As a Board Member, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership by setting the mission, vision and values of CFSPD and ensure they are reflected in programs and services
  • Select the Chief Executive Officer and review the CEO's performance in achieving CFSPD’s strategic direction
  • Be involved in planning, prioritizing and goal setting to respond creatively to the ongoing challenge of meeting the increased service needs of a growing community
  • Ensure that agency standards are maintained through good governance and fiscal responsibility
  • Promote a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion, plus exemplify DEI
  • Contribute expertise in one or more of the areas identified in GOAL, above 
  • Over your term of service, participate actively and purposefully in Board meetings, with membership on at least one Board committee (see TIME COMMITMENT, below)
  • Advocate on behalf of our clients to improve the provision of and access to social services within our community by speaking to politicians, funders and community audiences
  • Engage in ongoing evaluation of CFSPD performance (core services, programs, fiscal responsibility, etc.)
  • Assist the CEO and other Board Members in recruitment of quality candidates to join the Board
  • Consider the organization a philanthropic priority and make/obtain annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that CFSPD can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, CFSPD expects to have 100 percent of Board Members make/get an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Age - 18
  • You are prepared to serve for a MINIMUM OF 3 YEARS on the Board (and possibly for a further term)
  • You have informed yourself about the vision and mission of CFSPD, and you are passionate about contributing your leadership to assist in realizing these objectives
  • Recognition of, and commitment to, diversity, equity and inclusion within CFSPD, including assistance with Board recruitment
  • Background in one or more of the following areas is a definite asset: Business; Finance; Law; Fundraising; cCommunications and Marketing; Human Resources; Healthcare; Social Justice and Advocacy; and Community Development
  • Firm commitment to attend all bi-monthly Board meetings and AGMs over your 3-YEAR TERM, plus meetings of the committee that you will join
  • Reliable access to the Internet through appropriate devices (PC, laptop) and software for the purpose of virtual meetings (during COVID-19)
  • Participate at regular fundraising events
  • Represent CFSPD to stakeholders in the community, and act as 'ambassador' to the general public

SCREENING for Board Membership will be virtual (remote) during COVID-19 (Telephone/Email/Online interviewing), unless otherwise advised.

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Wednesday Evening

BOARD MEMBERSHIP TERM: 3 YEARS (6 to 10 hours approximately per month to fulfill Board responsibilities)
BI-MONTHLY BOARD MEETINGS 
(virtual during COVID-19, usually on a Wednesday evening)
Board committee meetings, as scheduled


Training

ORIENTATION and role-specific TRAINING will be provided (virtual during COVID-19)
