Goal

The Special Olympics would not exist, and could not have been created, without the time, energy, commitment, and enthusiasm of people just like you, individuals who choose to take a little time from busy schedules to make the world a better place. More than 400 Special Olympic coaches and other volunteers in support across the province make our programs possible and make a huge difference in the lives of our athletes.Our organization desires to raise its media profile and presence in Peel region and beyond. As our 'social media volunteer', you will help us secure and build our profile and expand our presence by management of various media and platforms. In doing so, you will add to your skills, experience, and possibilities.


Description

● Implementation of 'social media' strategies and activities for the Caledon Special Olympics● Engagement on 'social platforms' (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc.)● Effective, continuous interface between those platforms and our organization, organizers, and Special Olympics Ontario● Building a strong presence of the Caledon Special Olympics on the Internet, including use of 'triggers', and other 'attracts' in order to raise and sustain visibility and connectivity● Increase 'following' of the organization on the various platforms● Secure and maintain solid links with traditional media in the Region (newspapers, magazines, etc.), including coverage of athletic events and fundraisers● Collaboration with the organizations' leaders in achieving the objectives of the 'position' and of the Caledon Special OlympicsPLEASE APPLY AT THE EARLIEST OPPORTUNITY (your opportunity in 'social media' is here!)

Qualifications

● Experience in use of 'social media' (see 'Position Description' above)● Desire to establish/maintain the organization's presence in the local media (newspapers, magazines, etc.)● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills● Ability to write quality content suited to various types of 'social media'● Ability to adhere to project and other deadlines (incl. coverage of our local events, programs, and fundraisers)● Strong attention to detail● Experience with photography, graphic design is welcome ● Respect for, and commitment to, reflect the diversity and inclusiveness of our communities***** HOW TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER *****> STEP 1: Reaching Out! Time Commitment
This is a Medium Term (4 - 6 months) commitment starting 2018-06-04
Shifts are available Anytime

MINIMUM commitment of 3 hours per week.Expect to attend monthly meetings of the organizers, as necessary.Volunteering will include attendance at our athletic events, fundraisers, etc.


Training

Orientation about the Caledon Special Olympics, its programs and media relations will be provided.
