Goal

Caledon Heritage Foundation was incorporated in 2006, and is an independent charitable organization run by a volunteer Board of Directors. We work with our heritage partners to support heritage activity in the Town of Caledon, a home of indigenous peoples, settlers, and ancestors. In an effort to improve our services and presence in the community, our current focus is on refinement of our web site (and its content), which will allow residents to have their historical stories, photographs, and documents recorded digitally for easy access by future generations. The content will also explain the rich cultural heritage of Caledon.As 'Volunteer Support', you will make a valuable contribution to the Foundation by assisting in this undertaking, and in reference to other projects as may develop in the future.


Description

● 'Volunteer Support' is primarily concerned with the Foundation's website project● Role includes website development, particularly conversion of heritage material into an accessible and reliable digital format● There also will be opportunities for content development and preservation (eg. oral interviews, collection/organization/preservation of historical documents)● Community outreach to residents (relatives) who are sources of heritage● Use of social media to promote the Foundation (promote its presence in Caledon)● Liaise with committee members, project leads, and the Board of Directors

Qualifications

● Resident of the Town of Caledon (required)● Passion/curiosity/commitment about heritage in the Caledon community● Proficiency in use of general computer applications, including the Internet● Familiarity with website development and a willingness to learn● Knowledge of research techniques relating to heritage material will be helpful● Ability to work independently and on projects/tasks requested/directed by committees and/or the Board of Directors● Flexible schedule that includes committee and Board meetings*** The Foundation requests a volunteering commitment of MORE THAN 6 MONTHS ***

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment starting 2018-09-20 AND ending 2020-12-31
Shifts are available Anytime

Our board normally meets on a Thursday evening once a month in Caledon East. Committees meet at a time and place mutually convenient for members and volunteers.Volunteers are expected to volunteer from home and in the field as need be, an average 10 hours per month, preferably more.


Training

Experience has shown us that a face-to-face initial meeting normally determines the compatibility between a volunteer applicant and our Foundation.As our current project (see above) is underway, suitable volunteers will be assigned an aspect of the project that suits their interests and skills.
