Goal

The Active Adult Centre of Mississauga (AACM), a vibrant community hub for adults over 50, now in its 25th year, is currently looking to fill a key position on its Board: Director, Fund Development, for a term that will expire in June, 2020.The goal of AACM is to ensure that older adults remain active, independent, and engaged in their community, thus bettering their health and well-being. AACM is assisted by a strong and diverse Board of Directors and an outstanding team of 180 volunteers.Board members are primarily responsible for the strategic oversight of AACM operations and financial management, ensuring continued growth and sustainability, as well as excellence in seniors' programming and service.An exciting opportunity to serve in a vital leadership role with a community service organization that continues to have great impact in the local community.


Description

The AACM seeks a committed volunteer to serve on its Board, with responsibilities that will include recommending strategies, activities, and resources to expand the Centre's network of supporters and partners in line with the AACM's mission and goals, and furthermore assisting in the planning and evaluation of special events in conjunction with staff and volunteer committees.PLEASE APPLY before January 4, 2019 (see 'Position Qualifications', below)

Qualifications

The following qualifications are desirable:● Established 'marketing & promotion' skills/experience, with focus on fundraising (a 'CFRE' designation is a definite asset)● Prior leadership experience● Prior board of directors involvement in the not-for-profit sector● Excellent oral/written communication skills● Knowledge about Mississauga, its community leaders and stakeholders● Established 'network' of contacts in the Mississauga community (and beyond) that are potential sources for support/funding of AACM● Creative, committed, purposeful, complemented by patience and a sense of humourPLEASE NOTE: The volunteer for this position is required to serve as a member of the AACM Board of Directors until June, 2020. And because the position involves ongoing contact with Mississauga residents who are regarded as 'vulnerable', a 'Police Vulnerable Sector Check' is required (will be arranged with AACM as part of a successful screening process).Interested applicants are invited to submit a current resume (CV) and a covering letter to the Chair of the Nominations Committee at info@aacmiss.ca

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment starting 2019-01-14 AND ending 2020-06-01
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Thursday Afternoon, Thursday Evening, Saturday Morning

PREREQUISITE: Volunteer to serve on the Board of Directors until June, 2020TIME REQUIREMENT: Commitment of approximately 4 HOURS PER MONTH for the duration of the service term. This includes the commitment to attend board and other meetings regularly, and participation in committee workCustomary meeting days: Thursday afternoon/evening; Saturday morning


Training

An orientation to the AACM and Board operations is provided following appointment or election.
