Goal

Abbeyfield is an international society founded in England more than 50 years ago, dedicated to proving older people with affordable, companionable, and secure housing in a family-sized household within their local community. Abbeyfield Houses are set up and run on a not-for-profit basis under the management of a volunteer board of directors. Costs, which include meals, are shared by the residents. The Abbeyfield Caledon House is located in the rural area of the Town of Caledon, in the village of Caledon East, just north of Brampton. The House, which was built to accommodate twelve seniors and the House Manager, opened in 2010. For more information please see 'Social Media', below, with an active 'link' to our website. We seek volunteers, who have a passion for leadership in their community and a commitment to facilitate the lifestyles of older adults, to become members of our Board of Directors.


Description

● Membership on the Board of Directors, plus committee work ● Engagement in the overall governance of the not-for-profit ● Collaboration in Abbeyfield's ongoing strategic plan ● Monitoring/approval of budgets ● Oversight, to ensure compliance with all statutory requirements for a not-for-profit ● Focused contribution of skill/experience in one or more of the following areas: - Nursing/medical - Legal - Fundraising (grant writing/donor engagement) - Health and wellness/social lifestyle promotion for seniors - 'Social media' management/development (eg. website, Instagram, Facebook)

Qualifications

● Passion to volunteer and utilize your skills/expertise in a seniors environment ● Friendly, engaging, eager to promote/enhance the profile of 'Abbeyfield House Caledon' ● Leadership experience in the volunteering sector is an asset ● Specific expertise/experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: Nursing/medical; Legal; Fundraising; Health and Wellness (lifestyle enhancement for seniors); 'Social Media' ● Organized, ready to join an energetic, committed Board of Directors ● Proactive and responsible in reference to committee work PLEASE NOTE that a satisfactory 'Police Vulnerable Sector Check' is a prerequisite, given that Abbeyfield is closely involved with seniors.

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment starting 2022-01-01 AND ending 2024-12-31
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Tuesday Evening

Attend a MONTHLY 2 hour meeting (routinely, on a Tuesday), plus another 5 hours based on your specific role and involvement in committee activities. Currently we could use persons with skill in clinical (nursing or medical bacground), legal and social programming.
