Goal

The Caledon Parent-Child Centre (CPCC) is a non-profit community service organization that provides support, resources and education that strengthen families and promote the optimal development of children. The Centre serves families and caregivers with young children, primarily from birth to six years of age. The CPCC has been serving Caledon and the surrounding area since 1987, with a base location in Bolton. A mobile unit and rented space provide programs and services to families in 6 other locations throughout Caledon. Position SummaryThe Board of Directors of the Caledon Parent-Child Centre is a policy-making Board. Board Members participate in governance and decision-making, which ultimately determines the strategic directions and priorities for services established within the mission and mandate of the organization.  The Board is currently seeking a Finance professional to fill a vacancy on our Board, and more particularly on the Finance Committee. The Finance Committee assesses and monitors the financial affairs of the CPCC and provides necessary income and expenditure guidelines to ensure the financial health of the CPCC.


Description

General Duties & Responsibilities:

> Participate in setting the directions and policies of the organization to ensure that the needs of Caledon families and children are met

> Ensure fiscal responsibility and monitor funding in accordance with the organization's mandatePlay an active role in advising and supporting the Executive Director at Board and committee meetings

> Participate in the development of long-term plans for the organization

Attend and actively participate in MONTHLY BOARD MEETINGS (10 annually), held the 4th Monday of the month, in Bolton

Serve on a minimum of one Board Committee and work independently on assigned activities

Advocate on behalf of the CPCC and support fund development projects and activities

Finance Committee Duties & Responsibilities:

> Review financial data and provide recommendations to Executive Director, Finance Committee, and the Board

> Review annual budgets for multiple program areas, plus overall

> Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budgeting of multiple program areas

Qualifications

  • MINIMUM of 2 years financial experience – professional accounting designation preferred, but not required
  • Strong budgeting ability and experience in tracking grants
  • Experience with financial statements, reports, cash flow analysis, deferred revenue, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Experience within the not-for-profit sector preferred
  • You understand, and are committed to, the purpose and mandate of the CPCC
  • Ability, combined with commitment, to serve on the Board of Directors for a 2 YEAR TERM
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and community leadership skills
  • Strong problem-solving, planning, decision-making skills, with requisite attention to detail
  • You're a 'team player', plus you are able to volunteer independently, respecting tasking timetables and deadlines
  • Reliable access to the Internet and devices/software that are suitable for the 'role' (incl. 'virtual' communications, meetings, conferencing, etc.)

Training

ORIENTATION to CPCC/OEYC will be provided, as well as Board orientation. TRAINING: On-going, and further training and development opportunities will also be provided
