Goal

The stories of our community have never been more important or relevant as they are today. As CNIB goes through some exciting changes, you will be part of movement to motivate and educate Canadians on the abilities and experiences of people who are blind or partially sighted. This is accomplished by the CNIB advocacy team, which continues to plan and attend events in the community, events at schools, health fairs, seniors' homes and specifically designed to attract financial support. Our 'Event and Outreach Volunteers' assist the advocacy team with planning and by attending outreach events and campaigns across the GTA


Description

Responsibilities & Tasks:- Represent CNIB by attending health fairs, expos, and other related community events- Provide support to participants and volunteers with sight loss involved in CNIB's community advocacy and outreach work, including setting up and taking down our tables and booths- Assist with promoting CNIB programs and services across all regions of the GTA, particularly those that are currently underserved by CNIB - Assist with building relationships with other community organizations who have shared goals with CNIB's mission- Support Diversity Strategy initiatives, events and programming - Participate as a fully integrated member of the GTA Foundation team with regular travel within the GTA- Other duties as assignedPLEASE APPLY at the earliest opportunity (by no later than September 27, 2019). Qualifications

● Minimum age - 19 ● Well-developed interpersonal skills when dealing with individuals, groups, partners, and organizations ● Excellent written and oral communications skills ● Creative and innovative problem-solving skills ● Excellent event and time management skills ● Capable of working within tight deadlines ● Experience working with Not-for-Profit Organizations● Commitment and agreement to abide by CNIB's Volunteer Code of Conduct, including policies and procedures concerning confidentiality, conflict of interest, and the prevention of workplace harassment and violencePreliminary Screening (incl. 'Police Vulnerable Sector Check'):Long application form and interview, orientation, 2 character references, police record check with vulnerable sector check

Time Commitment
This is a Short Term (3 months or less) commitment starting 2019-07-24 AND ending 2019-09-27
Shifts are available Anytime

CNIB Office Hours: Mon thru Fri, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PMVolunteers are expected to devote 2-3 hours per week as a minimum, plus be FLEXIBLE about other times, in order to be available for scheduled events and other community outreaches.


Training

CNIB will provide orientation, including: About CNIB, About the people we help, About vision loss, and About volunteering at CNIB.Training specific to the role will be ongoing.
