The 'Powerful Tools for Caregivers' (PTC) program is a highly successful evidenced-based workshop developed by Stanford University. It runs for 1.5 hours, once a week, for 6 consecutive weeks and is led by 2 Peer Leaders. In the 6 weekly classes, caregivers develop a wealth of self-care tools to: reduce personal stress; change negative self-talk; communicate their needs to family members and healthcare or service providers; communicate effectively in challenging situations; recognize the messages in their emotions and deal with difficult feelings; and make tough caregiving decisions. As a trained 'Peer Leader', you commit to deliver a minimum of one 6 week program each year for the Central West Self-Management Program to remain certified. In appreciation for your time an honorarium in the amount of $180.00 + travel is reimbursed to each Leader upon completion of a full 6 week workshop series. Training, at no cost to successful applicants, is 2 days (participants must attend both days) and will be held on Wednesday, October 16th and Thursday, October 17th, 2019, at the Ajax Convention Centre (550 Beck Cres., Ajax ON). This 2-day training will qualify you to lead the 'Powerful Tools for Caregivers' Program in your organization or in the community, as you will have earned Leader Certification.
