Goal

Celebrating 100 years in 2018, the CNIB Foundation is a high profile. non-profit organization driven to change what it is to be blind today. We deliver innovative programs and powerful advocacy that empower people impacted by blindness to live their dreams and tear down barriers to inclusion. Our work as a blind foundation is powered by a network of volunteers, donors and partners from coast to coast to coast. The CNIB has a need for capable, dedicated volunteers, who will provide community-based support: DRIVING volunteer Ambassadors and/or Advocates who are blind or partially sighted and are travelling on CNIB business.


Description

Responsibilities & Tasks:● Confirm week's schedule with supervisor or Ambassador Assistant ● Drive Ambassador or Advocate to destination(s)● Be their sighted guide● Assist in set up/tear down of event materials as needed● Track and report mileage as directed● Track and report volunteer hours as directed or requiredPLEASE APPLY at the earliest opportunity (by no later than March 18, 2020). Qualifications

● Qualities, Skills and Training:- Excellent driving skills; clean driving record, valid driver's license, minimum $1 million liability insurance (if driving own car)- Patient, empathetic and friendly- Solid English communication skills (fluency in a second language welcome)- Organized, reliable, punctual- Attendance at Orientation, including: About CNIB, About the people we help, About vision loss, and About volunteering at CNIB and AODA training- Training specific to the position, including: sighted guide ● Requesting volunteers to commit to the 'position' for AT LEAST 6 MONTHS

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Monday Morning, Monday Afternoon, Monday Evening, Tuesday Morning, Tuesday Afternoon, Tuesday Evening, Wednesday Morning, Wednesday Afternoon, Wednesday Evening, Thursday Morning, Thursday Afternoon, Thursday Evening, Friday Morning, Friday Afternoon, Friday Evening, Saturday Morning, Saturday Afternoon, Saturday Evening

FLEXIBLE (weekly schedule to be worked out with the Supervisor, excluding Sunday), to be mutually arranged between the CNIB and the volunteer, bearing in mind that the amount/frequency of driving will depend on needs and appointments that relate to the CNIB's volunteer Ambassadors/Advocates.


Training

One-month probation period. Supervisor available for ongoing support and training. Updated copies of driver's license, abstract and insurance must be provided annually. See 'Position Qualifications', above.
