Goal

Celebrating 100 years in 2018, the CNIB Foundation is a high profile. non-profit organization driven to change what it is to be blind today. We deliver innovative programs and powerful advocacy that empower people impacted by blindness to live their dreams and tear down barriers to inclusion. Our work as a blind foundation is powered by a network of volunteers, donors and partners from coast to coast to coast. A recent program initiative is 'Phone It Forward': With millions of smartphones gathering dust each year as users upgrade to newer models, 'Phone It Forward' gives Canadians a unique opportunity to donate their old phones, receive a tax receipt, and empower people who are blind in the process. Smartphones make a tremendous impact on the lives of people who are blind. Accessible smartphone apps make it possible to do all kinds of things that may have seemed challenging before. Through a partnership with Fixt Wireless Repair, donated smartphones are wiped to the highest data security standards, loaded with accessible apps, and provided to people with sight loss who need them, along with technical training, discounted maintenance, and data plan support. Our 'Phone It Forward' Team Captain(s) reports to the CNIB Specialist, Phone It Forward and is responsible for coordinating and supporting the development of Phone It Forward phone drives in local communities, raising awareness about CNIB and its programs, elevating community profile, advocating for smartphone donations, and educating the public on the impact technology has in the hands of individuals impacted by blindness.
