Goal

The stories of our community have never been more important or relevant as they are today. As CNIB goes through some exciting changes, you will be part of movement to motivate and educate Canadians on the abilities and experiences of people who are blind or partially sighted. This will be done by attending events in the community, events at schools, health fairs, seniors' homes and specifically designed to attract financial support. Raise awareness and change perceptions through speaking about your experience of sight loss (or other personal connection), PLUS inform others about the programs and services of CNIB and the positive impact it has made. We're changing what it means to be blind together, and our 'GTA Ambassadors' will have fun doing it!


Description

● Attend community events in your area when available and when requested● You own your story. Act as a community representative and share your personal story to raise awareness and deliver key messages on services and programs provided by CNIB ● Act as a liaison between CNIB and the wider community● Occasional travel within your region to local events (reimbursed by CNIB, approval required by supervisor)● Collaborate with supervisor and event organizer to make arrangements regarding the event● Provide feedback to supervisor to share your successes and how to improve the program● Take part in CNIB ambassador training opportunities and meetings when required● Become part of a network of active volunteers and create positive change for individuals who are blind or partially sightedPLEASE APPLY at the earliest opportunity (by no later than September 27, 2019). Qualifications

● Commitment to be in the role for a MINIMUM OF 6 MONTHS● Available to volunteer for events, based on a flexible schedule● Subscribe to and uphold the mission of CNIB and promote CNIB in a positive way● Close connection to sight loss and/or knowledge of issues and concerns facing individuals with sight loss● Be respectful of yourself, CNIB clients, other volunteers and CNIB by acting responsibly and with integrity● Excellent communication skills and confident speaking to an audience and one-on-one● Strong public speaking skills and comfortable with delivering presentations● Ability to keep calm even if high pressure situations arise● Ability to articulate key messages clearly and concisely● Reliable, organized and able to volunteer with minimal supervision

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment starting 2019-09-04 AND ending 2019-09-27
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Monday Morning, Monday Afternoon, Tuesday Morning, Tuesday Afternoon, Wednesday Morning, Wednesday Afternoon, Thursday Morning, Thursday Afternoon, Friday Morning, Friday Afternoon

We expect you to join us for a minimum of 6 months. This role is FLEXIBLE and you will 'set your own schedule' for when event opportunities arise.


Training

The CNIB supervisor assigned to this role is available for ongoing support.
