Goal

Celebrating 100 years in 2018, the CNIB Foundation is a high profile. non-profit organization driven to change what it is to be blind today. We deliver innovative programs and powerful advocacy that empower people impacted by blindness to live their dreams and tear down barriers to inclusion. Our work as a blind foundation is powered by a network of volunteers, donors and partners from coast to coast to coast. This 'volunteer position' oversees all aspects of operating the CNIB Store in Mississauga (300 - 50 Burnhamthorpe Road West), notably customer service, inventory, sustaining relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors, while working closely with other CNIB Shops to assist in customer service, inventory control, plus promotion/enhancement of goodwill and the excellent reputation of our stores.


Description

● In this role, our volunteers generally provide onsite operation of the CNIB Mississauga store● Provides information to the public and those with vision loss regarding assistive aids that are on display or available through CNIB's consumer products department● Refers consumers to appropriate VLRO Orientation & Mobility Specialist for replacement/new canes● Provides general knowledge of the relevant Assistive Devices Program ('ADP'), with referrals to the appropriate CNIB/VLRO (Vision Loss Rehabilitation Ontario) specialist for further instruction (action)● Demonstrates 'Daisy' players (audio book device) to customers (incl. problem-solving between customer and vendor in respect of faulty machines)● Provides catalogues to customers as the need arises● Refers any customers to CNIB's 1-800 to access purchasing process● Promotes CNIB's direct sales model to potential and existing customers● Promotes marketing and community outreach to potential and existing customer● Inventory management/control, stock-taking, stock ordering● Maintains relationships with CNIB clients, Ontario and national staff● Performs other tasks as needed and/or requestedPLEASE APPLY at the earliest opportunity (by no later than October 11, 2019). Qualifications

● Secondary school diploma required● MINIMUM of 2 years 'customer service' experience (incl. cash/debit/credit sales; online sales; inventory ordering/control; store display; sales promotions; return/exchange policies/processes)● This 'volunteer position' requires an overall time commitment of AT LEAST 6 MONTHS● Prior experience with a not-for-profit organization is an asset● Solid English oral/written communication skills● Proficient in 'MS Office' applications (Word processing/Excel/Internet/email, etc.)● Friendly, engaging with members of the public (plus sensitive to the special needs of the vision-impaired)● Understanding of the CNIB's mission and retailing services and objectives, with a commitment to use best efforts to implement these● Commitment to learn and abide by CNIB policies and procedures (incl. our 'Volunteer Code of Conduct')● Organized, resourceful, multi-tasker, with attention to detail and problem-solving capability● Lifting of inventory likely required (up to 20 lbs/10 kgs)● Able to travel independently within the GTA and adjoining communities (occasionally, as necessary), via car, public transit, taxi*** Volunteer Screening Process:- Application form (incl. resume)- Interview (References)- 'Police Vulnerable Sector Check' required

Shifts are available on the following days
 - Tuesday Morning, Tuesday Afternoon, Thursday Morning, Thursday Afternoon

WEEKLY: Monday & Thursday, from 9AM to 3:30PMOVERALL COMMITMENT: Minimum 6 months


Training

Orientation (preliminary) will be provided during a latter stage of the applicant screening process, and by way of introduction to the Mississauga CNIB store and its features.Training and periodic reviews will be conducted, having regard to the successful applicant's background and experience.
