Celebrating 100 years in 2018, the CNIB Foundation is a high profile. non-profit organization driven to change what it is to be blind today. We deliver innovative programs and powerful advocacy that empower people impacted by blindness to live their dreams and tear down barriers to inclusion. Our work as a blind foundation is powered by a network of volunteers, donors and partners from coast to coast to coast. The 'Peer Support Meeting Assistant' embraces a community-based supporting role, providing assistance to CNIB's support group facilitators to prepare and moderate sessions, and in particular, providing a safe environment for all.


Description

This role supports the group session facilitator.Tasks will depend on location and need but may include:- Making reminder phone calls to members of the group- Ensuring a safe space- General maintenance duties (keeping things operational, neat and tidy)- Assisting with refreshments- Track and report volunteer hours as directed- Other tasks as requestedPLEASE APPLY at the earliest opportunity (by no later than March 18, 2020). Qualifications

● Engagement in this role - minimum of 6 MONTHS (see 'Time Detail', below)● Friendly, engaging, ready/able to assist participants in the sessions● Patient, empathetic● Reliable, organized, and able to volunteer with minimal supervision● Alert and aware of the participants' needs and surroundings● Ready/able to abide by CNIB's 'Volunteer Code of Conduct'● Available for all 'Orientation & Training'*** Preliminary Screening: - Long application form- Interview (with preliminary orientation)- 3 character references- 'Police Vulnerable Sector Check'

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Monday Morning, Monday Afternoon, Tuesday Morning, Tuesday Afternoon, Wednesday Morning, Wednesday Afternoon, Thursday Morning, Thursday Afternoon, Friday Morning, Friday Afternoon

1. Group sessions typically run 6-8 weeks2. Sessions run on WEEKDAYS, mornings or afternoons (2-3 hours each)3. Frequency: ONE session per weekVolunteering schedules will be arranged having regard to the session(s) schedule. Prep time, as needed, for these sessions will be factored into your volunteer hours.


Training

Orientation includes: CNIB Services, the people we serve, vision loss challenges, and volunteering at the CNIB
Training will be specific to the 'volunteer position'Supervisor is always present and available for ongoing support and training.
