Goal

'My Furniture Bank' recycles new and gently used home furnishings from individual and corporate donors and distribute them to:- those transitioning from homelessness- refugees- youth living on their own- families living below the poverty line- victims of domestic violence- the elderly- those with disabilities- those who have lost all to fire, a natural disaster or personal tragedyOur clients have been referred to us by registered community shelters, faith-based organizations, and social agencies. By connecting donors and social agencies, we strive to network families in need with furnishings for their homes.Help us to eliminate Furniture Poverty in your community!My Furniture Bank not only helps families in need, but also helps the environment by diverting thousands of pieces of furniture destined for local landfills every year.If you have an eye for decor and love to help create a home, we are looking for volunteers to spend time with those who are in need of furniture. Many clients are new to Canada, or have lost their belongings due to unfortunate circumstances and need of help. We hope to make a difference with providing the necessary items to add comfort and joy to a home. Volunteers should be patient and understanding of our client's desire to create a happy, healthy home.


Description

'Personal Shopper' volunteers 'shop' with our clients as they choose the furniture for their home. This highly interactive 'role' involves the following:- Interact politely and positively with clients and donors - Help to organize furniture in warehouse and identify items in need of repair- Make recommendations to clients based on need- Maintain client files based on furniture selection- Communicate with warehouse staff to ensure streamlined process- Help with basic housekeeping in the warehouse (keep the warehouse neat)

Qualifications

● Solid 'customer service' skills● Proficient in oral English (fluency in an additional language is welcome)● Friendly, engaging, personable with clients and donors● Ready to exercise common sense when listening to and guiding clients● Committed to volunteer as a collaborative member of our team● Reliable, punctual, you easily promote confidence, especially in our clientsThe 'role' requires our volunteers to supply/wear 'safety approved' footwear, and you must pass a 'Vulnerable Sector Police Check'.

WEEKLY: Monday to Friday, with flexible schedule between the hours of 7 am and 2 pmSuccessful applicants will arrange a weekly schedule with us.

Training will be provided to all volunteers at no cost.
