Goal

Looking for a volunteer position and a work out all in one? We are looking for volunteers to help move, clean, organize, and inventory furniture items as they come and go from our warehouse. The position requires a certain amount of physical fitness as furniture can be challenging to handle. We offer a fun and inclusive environment as we try to change the lives of our clients one sofa at a time!'My Furniture Bank' recycles new and gently used home furnishings from individual and corporate donors and distribute them to:- those transitioning from homelessness- refugees- youth living on their own- families living below the poverty line- victims of domestic violence- the elderly- those with disabilities- those who have lost all to fire, a natural disaster or personal tragedyOur clients have been referred to us by registered community shelters, faith-based organizations, and social agencies. By connecting donors and social agencies, we strive to network families in need with furnishings for their homes.Help us to eliminate Furniture Poverty in your community!>>> My Furniture Bank not only helps families in need, but also helps the environment by diverting thousands of pieces of furniture destined for local landfills every year!


Description

The 'Warehouse Team Support' volunteer will receive and handle, and sometimes repair, furniture in the warehouse and on/off the truck. Specifically:- Lift, move, and clean furniture (inventory can weigh up to 50 lbs (25 kgs)- Receive furniture on drop off days from donors and fill out appropriate paperwork- Organize furniture in warehouse and identify items in need of repair or upcyling- Input inventory into our computer system- Help with basic housekeeping in the warehouse (keep the warehouse neat)

Qualifications

● Solid 'customer service' skills welcome (you will be dealing with our clients and donors)● Able to lift, carry physical inventory weighing up to 50 lbs (25 kgs)● Proficient in oral/written English (fluency in an additional language is welcome)● Basic computer literacy (you will be using our 'inventory tracking' software)● Friendly, engaging, personable with clients and donors● Ready to exercise common sense and courtesy when listening to and guiding clients, and acknowledging donors● Committed to volunteer as a collaborative member of our team● Reliable, punctual, you easily promote confidence, especially in our clientsThe 'role' requires our volunteers to supply/wear 'safety approved' footwear, and to follow all safety protocols.

Shifts are available on the following days

WEEKLY: Monday to Friday, with flexible schedule between the hours of 7 am and 2 pmOccasional Saturday warehouse shiftsSuccessful applicants will arrange a weekly schedule with us.


Training

All volunteers will be provided with training at no cost.
