Safe City Mississauga, a registered charitable nonprofit organization, is guided by the vision of a crime free city in which to live, work, and play and is mandated to provide services, programs and information that contribute to the prevention and reduction of crime and the promotion of community safety initiatives in the City of Mississauga. We rely upon and immensely value all our volunteers who selflessly invest their time in the welfare of the City and its residents!The 'Program Assistant' is the MOST SENIOR VOLUNTEER POSITION in our organization, with delegation to oversee key community programs such as 'Neighbourhood Watch' and 'Aspire' tutoring, as well as crime prevention initiatives and public information outreaches.THIS OPPORTUNITY is especially suited for retired school teachers, police officers, social workers.


Description

Reporting directly to the Service Area Manager, the role of 'Program Assistant' includes the following:- assists with the delivery of Safe City Mississauga programs/events/campaigns to ensure relevance and effectiveness as well as alignment with the organization mission, vision and values - engages people in city government, police and other programs stakeholders when contributing to strategies and campaigns designed to promote the organization's various activities, programs and services- assists with the personnel administration of volunteer recruitment and records management, i.e. 'Aspire' site coordinators and tutors; 'Neighbourhood Watch' team leads, etc. - prioritizes tasks appropriately for program/project volunteers, to ensure deliverables are on track and/or provide support and guidance - contributes to the strengths and opportunities for improvements, develop recommendations for continuous improvement - attends meetings and program sessions as required and responds to requests for information in a timely manner - performs all other reasonable tasks assigned by the Service Area Manager *** PLEASE NOTE: We are 'virtually screening' applicants during the COVID-19 Emergency, so do not hesitate to use the yellow box 'Apply Now!' Qualifications

● Retired school teachers, police officers, social workers PREFERRED● ONE YEAR MINIMUM volunteer engagement (7 to 14 hours per week)● Excellent English communication skills (fluency in additional language(s) welcome)● Passion for crime prevention in your City (Mississauga), plus awareness of ongoing community issues● Friendly, outgoing, with volunteer leadership experience (especially in 'program coordination')● Computer literate (comfortable using office-related software - Microsoft/Google)● Strong organizational abilities, prioritizing, problem-solving, with attention to detail● First Aid/CPR training are assets● Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Check Level 3) REQUIRED*** During the COVID-19 Emergency, SCREENING will be 'virtual' (online, by phone, etc.)
