Goal

Founded in 1955, Community Living Mississauga is a non-profit, charitable organization which provides support to individuals who have an intellectual disability. Our mission is to provide support to individuals who have an intellectual disability to ensure their quality of life in the community is meaningfully improved.Working alongside Community Living Mississauga staff, volunteers will support youth who have an intellectual disability to fully participate in planned recreational and leisure activities in Mississauga, on Saturday's.


Description

> ONCE A MONTH on a SATURDAY between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., volunteers under the supervision of Community Living Mississauga staff will be an encouraging friend, supporter, and role model to youth aged 13+ in a variety of fun recreational activities.> Volunteers will make a 6-month commitment (at least 6 Saturday's)> Please note: most activities take place in the SQUARE ONE area

Qualifications

● You are a friendly empathetic person, with an interest in improving the quality of life for youth who have an intellectual disability● You're ready to motivate and encourage● You come with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills● In Grade 9 or a higher grade (no older than 30)● Mobile, able to travel confidently within the City of Mississauga (knowledge of local amenities, entertainment/recreational venues is helpful)● Willing to undergo 'volunteer screening':- Attend an interview with the Manager of Volunteer Services- Provide 3 references- If you're age 18 or older, a 'Police Vulnerable Sector Reference Check' is required. If under 18, this is not required.

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment starting 2019-10-21 AND ending 2020-01-31
Shifts are available on the following days
 - Saturday Morning, Saturday Afternoon

Volunteers must be willing to make a 6-month commitment to participate one Saturday per month. Most of our volunteers enjoy this volunteer opportunity and choose to stay on for longer periods of time.


Training

All volunteers will be provided with a mandatory 2.5 hour Orientation and Training session.
All volunteers will be provided with on the spot training.
