Goal

As the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in Canada, The Salvation Army provides unprecedented support to society's most vulnerable. Social and community service programs focus on nurturing the capacities, skills and strengths of individuals rather than just meeting their needs. With the public's generosity, in 2019 in Canada: - The Salvation Army provided 5,500 shelter, addictions, detox, and mental health beds for vulnerable men, women, and families in Canada - The Salvation Army served 3.3 million free meals - The Salvation Army assisted 1,320,000 persons with food, clothing or practical assistance We have a SIGNIFICANT PRESENCE and ROLE in Mississauga and Brampton, and our impact would not be what it is, 24/7, without VOLUNTEERS. Our 'Volunteer Drivers' make a key contribution by picking up donations from corporate donors and from the community, for the shelters in Mississauga and Brampton.


Description

Drive the Salvation Army Van to pick up donations from the community and transport these to the shelters in Mississauga and Brampton shelters Interact with the public and represent the Salvation Army. DURING COVID-19, distincing precautions will be strictly observed, and we will promote 'contactless' p/ups and deliveries to our facilities. Our need is ongoing during the COVID-19 Emergency. Qualifications

  • Friendly, engaging with the public
  • Solid oral/written English communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions (incl. COVID-19 Health and Safety protocols)
  • Overall time commitment - we prefer at least 6 MONTHS
  • Satisfactory Police background check
  • Full Class 'G' Ont Driver's Licence
  • Clean Driver's abstract
  • Comfortable with street directions, plus ability to locate addresses of pick up locations
  • *** Screening during COVID-19 will be 'virtual'.

Time Commitment
This is a Long Term (More than 6 months) commitment starting 2020-01-21 AND ending 2022-02-28
Shifts are available Anytime

FLEXIBLE: Ongoing, as donations arise and p/up are scheduled, and as long as you continue to enjoy helping. Volunteers will 'check in' with staff supervisors regularly and should regard themselves as 'on call'.


Training

Initially, 'virtual' training will be provided, with focus on COVID-19 Health and Safety protocols. The SAFETY OF OUR VOLUNTEERS COMES FIRST!
