Position Description FAQ

What are the age requirements to participate?
Youth ages 12-14 are invited to participate. Keen 11-year olds are also welcome.

Should I attend with or without my child?
Due to limited space, we are asking to limit this event to youth; however, if you feel that you need to be there as a matter of safety/caregiving, please email us. If parents/guardians just need a good way to pass the time while your child participates in the event, exploring the scenic grounds of The Riverwood is a great way to spend a summer day!

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Parking at the Riverwood is free. Public transportation to Riverwood is available via MiWay (Burnhamthorpe Route 26, and the ERINDALE GO Station is nearby). See 'Map', below.

What permissions are required?
To participate in this event, you must complete and provide a Photo/Video Consent Form. We will be talking to youth about volunteering for the purpose of producing a short promotional/educational film/trailer on youth volunteering. At the event, sign-in and sign-out will be requested.

Where exactly at The Riverwood Conservancy is it?
A Volunteer MBC staff member will be present with a sign just next to The Riverwood parking lot and will guide participants to the group location.

What are the drop-off and pick-up times?
At 8:45AM to 9 AM, sign-in and a brief orientation will occur. Pick-up time is 11:45 to 12NOON. A Volunteer MBC staff member will be present with a sign just next to the Riverwood parking lot and will guide participants to the group.

What will the youth volunteers be doing?
Derek, a Conservation Specialist from The Riverwood Conservancy, will be educating youth about removing invasive species, environmental monitoring, and other conservation methods.

Will there be food?
Volunteer MBC will provide light snacks and water, but given that we are outdoors, be sure to have a healthy breakfast before you come!

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
A printed ticket is not required. Your name will be added to a list at check-in.

Is there any cost to register?
No, this event is FREE.

Who is conducting this event?
Your local volunteer centre, Volunteer MBC, is conducting this event in partnership with The Riverwood Conservancy.
