Position Description North Peel & Dufferin Community Legal Services is looking for someone passionate about social justice to join our volunteer Board of Directors! We are a community legal clinic serving residents of Brampton, Caledon, and Dufferin County. We provide free legal services to low income people, including help with tenancies, disability benefits, social assistance, immigration and employment law. See details in 'Social Media' (below). Community legal clinics are funded by Legal Aid Ontario, but each one is an independent not-for-profit corporation with a community based board of directors.

We are looking for a board member with financial expertise to fill the role of Treasurer. It is a requirement that board members live or work in the area that we serve (Brampton, Caledon and Dufferin County). Previous board experience is not required. Our board of directors is a policy board, with operational matters left to the Executive Director. The board meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m., usually for about 1 1/2 hours.

Time Detail The board of directors meets monthly, on the fourth Tuesday of each month, usually for 1 1/2 hours. However, there are no meetings in July, August or December. We would anticipate this position starting with the January, 2020 meeting.

Board Members may expect to devote time to prep for these meetings and towards tasks that specifically are part of their 'role' on the Board.
