About the Position
Peel Learning Foundation 5650 Hurontario Street, Mississauga, Ontario Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon
We seek caring, committed and generous members of the community to serve as volunteers on the Peel Learning Foundation's Board of Directors. Board member terms are for THREE (3) years and directors are eligible to serve for 2 terms.

As a member of the Board of Directors, your roles are that of a:

1. Donor - to make a financial contribution to the Peel Learning Foundation, each calendar year, at a level that is meaningful to you

2. Connector - to connect the Peel Learning Foundation with others who share your desire to support students in need in our school communities

3. Ambassador - to speak and advocate on behalf of the Peel Learning Foundation with your personal and professional networks, with current donors, and through social media

4. Governor - to participate in the effective and successful functioning of the Peel Learning Foundation

As a member of the Peel Learning Foundation Board of Directors, you will have the opportunity to work in support of students to ensure that they can overcome barriers they face and achieve personal excellence. We believe in ensuring a 'level playing field' in terms of educational opportunities.


You will be joined by like-minded individuals who care about youth and education and you will have the opportunity to expand your professional network while making a positive, important difference in our community.
We are looking for volunteers who are:

Connectors/Ambassadors from diverse areas of the corporate sector (industry, finance, information technology) who are comfortable with, and willing to work within, the scope of their established personal and professional networks to engage friends, contacts and connections

*** To support our philanthropic programs by
o Making a personal donation
o Providing personal invitations to four to six contacts (annually) to learn about the work of the Peel Learning Foundation and be invited to receive follow-up information
o Sending follow up emails to attendees seeking their permission for additional meetings with the board member and/or the Executive Officer

Connector / ambassadors from the educational sector, who are comfortable reaching out and advocating within the education sector,

*** To support the growth of the payroll donation and legacy giving fundraising programs by
o Making a personal donation, preferably through the payroll donation program
o Speaking at school parent council meetings
o Delivering presentations at school staff meetings
o Speaking at meetings of staff associations and union groups
o Sharing their perspective on program needs with other directors

And for these directors to meet our donor stewardship, organizational governance and awareness raising objectives, we need active directors who will:

● Call Peel Learning Foundation donors (as assigned) to thank them for their generous donation

● Raise the profile of the Peel Learning Foundation through social media

● Participate in raising the profile of the Peel Learning Foundation by attending cheque presentations, backpack deliveries and other events

● Receive and review board information packages, and attend and fully participate at Board of Directors meetings
Applicants will be screened, and further details of the Board members' role, requirements and expectations, will be outlined during stages in the screening process.
